Fuel Tank/Side Cover badges with little clamp thingies
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:34:18 AM »
Just want to make sure I do this right. The side cover & fuel tank badges (and the cover that goes over the alternator) use these little clamps to stay on.. P/N 87311-634-600 - $2.25 ea!?!? Do they just slide over the posts, and then you insert the posts into the holes?

That's what she said. :)

Getting ready to do one (1) emblem on my CB 350 G. I would think the plug goes in the hole first then the clip expands when you pop in the emblem holding it in place.

Still waiting on parts.

Hmm - little more digging reveals that they all have separate parts. 87311-634-600 (x4) for the tank badges, 11633-323-000 (x3) for the alt cover and 90315-504-000 (x6) for the side covers. The side cover ones clearly attach after you attach the bage, but the ones for the tank and alt cover - do they just slide onto the posts, and then posts into mounting holes?

You need "Starlock" fasteners for the side cover badges. They come in various sizes.
I refused to pay Honda that much for theirs too so I found these:   http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=97276.0

The tank badges use what are know as "barrel clips" and they too can be found cheaper than Honda.

If there is already a receiving hole like the tanks, then the nut goes in the hole first. Then you push in the emblem. This will produce friction going in and hold the badge. It would be difficult but not impossible to draw the badge back out, so be sure you're ready to push in. There is a sort of fishhook barb that will hold the tank emblem IIRC. Maybe not.

On the sidecovers, its a different style "nut". The emblem goes in first and the nut goes on the backside.

I used silicon on the posts for the side covers.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
