72 350F w/Velorex 562 sidecar
« on: November 03, 2011, 04:04:15 PM »
Weird combo, huh? Bought it from a guy that put the chair on it 20 years ago and has been riding it ever since. Looks like a really nice "survivor" with most/all original parts still there and in nice shape (sidecovers still there, not cracked; chrome good, etc.). Will respond nicely to some TLC over our long Michigan winter in my heated shop.

Anyway, proud to be an SOHC owner! Have been lurking and pulling down info in the forums over the past few days to get a feel for what the 350F is all about. Lots of experience restoring small Hondas, excited to fiddle with my new F!

PS: In Mexico on vacation, PITA to add photo of it. Later when I get home.
EDIT 11/6/11: Here's a few photos

Bump for photos added to original post.

Also, anyone know what the exhaust is on it? It's pretty loud, and I want to get her whisper-quiet. Bought a set of 4 headpipes off eBay in anticipation of finding some sort of mufflers to put on the end of them. Guessing probably making/buying some sort of 2 to 1 adapter from the headpipes for each side then going into...something. Any ideas/advice?

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

First of all, welcome. Very cool setup you have there. Any idea if the gearing was lowered for lugging that chair around? Not much extra torque on these 350f's.

Your current exhaust is either Mac or Jardine. I'm not good enough to know which exactly.

Your plan of making your own with a 2-1 collector is a good idea. I used to have a link somewhere to a site that sold collectors but now I can't find it. They're hard to find but if you come across an MC 4-2 system, I used to run one and it was pretty quiet. They seem to pop up for the 500/550's as well and I think it's the same kit as the 350. If you've got the coin you can buy the reproduction original 4-4 system. They're supposed to be quiet as well.

here's my bike with the MC exhaust:

The PO said he tried lowered the gearing a bit but it did no good, just made more revs but no additional "oomph", so he put it back to stock. I just had it out today, since I just got the registration/plate license in the mail and was legal for the first time. Definitely not a rig you want to go more than, say, 45-50 mph in, but that's OK...that's what I planned to do with it. Take the dog and the wife for a few putt-putt rides on nice days. Though I AM thinking about detaching the bike from the car and having a little fun with the F!  :)

Opened my eBay headpipes today. Look pretty good! I found another post from 2009 about a place in Italy making 4/4 stamped repro mufflers. Have an email in to them asking about price, etc. Hope they're still making them!
