Hello from South Central Pennsylvania
« on: November 04, 2011, 10:46:19 AM »
Hello everyone.
I have a 1980 CB650 Custom project I have been slowly putting together. It is a 1980 frame and engine, but I recently acquired 1981 tank and side covers for it, and several of the parts are off of other years and models of Honda SOHC bikes thanks to eBay. If everything goes according to plan, I will have it on the road in the spring.
I have an engine off a parts bike that I recently bought that I am in the beginning stages of rebuilding. Once the engine is complete, I will strip the bike down to the frame, and repaint or powder coat the frame, then put it all back together with the fresh engine. I plan on leaving the imperfections in the chrome and paint as my objective is not a show bike.
This is my first bike, and it has been an educational experience so far, as I am sure it will continue to be.

Welcome.  There's a lot to be found by just searching here, and the FAQ's are a good resource for anyone's projects.

I love Your user ID, great song by a great man, and describes nearly every '70s honda.

Thank you.
I have found a lot of good information already, and I am sure I will find more as I encounter unexpected snags in my project.
Reading some of the threads here is making me want to get an early 70s 750 and restore it next, but I think my wife may have a problem with me taking on a new bike project.
My Dad has a beautiful '74 CB450 he bought new, I would love to get my 650 on the road and take a trip back to Michigan to go for a ride with him.

Here are a few photos of the bike.
I got a H4 halogen headlight kit for it that I still need to install.
I still need to put the chrome airbox covers on, and get new wheel bearings for it.
