Starter Gear/Clutch Removal
« on: November 05, 2011, 02:34:27 PM »
Alright I searched back a bit but am having no luck finding an answer to my specific concern.

I am deleting electric start on my 1977 CB750F.  I have not used it once in 6 months except to bump the bike over for an oil change.  That was sheer laziness.  With that, I am wondering if I can delete the starter gear and clutch from off the crankshaft fairly easily?  Namely are their any bearing/seal concerns?  I don't see why there would be, but stranger things have happened.

I'd like to be able to re-install the parts in the future, IF I decided I wanted to.  It is just nice to know that if I get hurt or something and feel the need to go back to electric start I have the option.

I'm deleting Electric Start in an effort to streamline my electrical system and because I just have not used it in months.  I've got starting the bike down to a decent science that rarely becomes an issue.
