Thanks guys for all your input - some very helpful, some less helpful and some just plain funny!
Terry, I know you're right, as are many others here. Although backrest and saddles bags on an 1100R...mmmm. I s'pose a fella should try just about anything eh.  ;D

The subject has not been discussed further in my house, I think she thinks it has all gone away ::). It hasn't. I am riding the bike today to make sure in my own mind that it is all good and straight, and then................"hi honey, I'm h-o-o-ome"......interesting times.

The market is pretty flat at the moment and I really don't think these will be any cheaper than they are. Time to strike!

Terry, it's only an investment if you can bear to part with it. My wife won't buy that one because I can never sell anything.  :D

Ha ha, that's true Cliff, I'm lucky I guess that I like to "wheel and deal" so I'm always buying and selling stuff, that's why I've owned over 20 CB750's in 33 years. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thats the smartest thing Terry has come up with in a long time! And to think I absolutely protested my wife's insistence to get licensed  :o  Hell, instead of giving up half of a good chunk with this divorce #$%* I could of had it all, her stuff and a quarter million dollars. I must be quite stupid  ;)
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Hey I don't know if that's a compliment or just another hurtfull insult Jerry, but lets face it mate, you've spent most of your adult life giving away half your stuff to ex-wives and girlfriends, so I'm surprised that you're still pissed? I tell you what, you buy me a house and give me your Harley, (you can keep your Fugly F bike, have you noticed that none of your ex's have asked for it? They're not entirely stupid.....) and I'll kick you in the nuts, and we'll just go our own separate ways? Hell, I'll even buy you a beer occasionally! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hey that's great Pete, now buy the bloody thing and don't worry about your missus, I've got a shotgun and a shovel, so if she gives you any lip, just let me know. Cheers, Terry. :D

Ha ha, no worries Mick, lets face it, they have a use-by date, and if it wasn't for some gender-specific qualities, they'd be stacked 10 high at the tip! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Actually Pete,
I did have a pet croc for a while until the M/Fcka bit me.
That one ended up at the Croc Farm and they told me that it was a female.
Another one that bit the hand that fed it.  ;D

Game over, I lose.
When you argue and reason for an hour and the old "go get it then if you have to" line is thrown at you, you know you are on a hiding to nowhere (like the ad that Mick posted)....the bike would always be a leverage tool for years to come, and all that does is take away the joy of owning it...all it would do is symbolize the grief and resentment....it just aint worth it.
Looks like it's just the old sohc for me..... which of course is not a bad thing eh. I'm sure I'll be able to find things that I can spend money on it for....

Anyway, I can always say now that I have ridden an 1100R, which is something i hadn't been able to do before today. ::)

Ha ha, it was only a horrible underpowered French car anyway mate, so no great loss, it's not like it was a real car like a Ford or a Chev, she was probably doing you a favor............ Cheers, Terry. ;D

Mate, that's awful news, I really thought you had a chance there. Hey if it's just a case of her going off her titts if you bring it home, but won't notice the missing money so much, why not buy it and hide it somewhere? Have you got somewhere at work that you can park it?

I work in military warehouses all over Victoria, so I can hide bikes, cars, women, (OK, that last one was a lie....) pretty much anywhere. Last year I bought a Range Rover on a whim and parked it at an Airforce warehouse for a few months until I got bored with it and sold it again, and she was none the wiser! C'mon mate, stop sooking and think outside the box, (no pun intended, really) and if all else fails, I'll organise an "Insurance job" for you. (if you give me a ride on your CB1100R.........) ;D

Problem is she looks after the banking mate.....so I aint gonna get away with that. Many thoughts have crossed my mind on how to do it, or just HTFU and do it, but I love my peaceful life, and it sure is peaceful in this house at the moment.... ::)
In 18years I've never done anything that didn't have her support and I'm not the sort of person who wants to change that....but the concept is looking better.. :o

Bummer Mate but it's just not worth the grief.
Anyway mate, this is what I'd be doing.
If you loosen off a couple of tappets and detune the carbs a bit so that the SOHC runs and sounds like a POS, you can say that the motors about to croak it and it DEFINATELY needs a rebuild.
The upside is that you can stick a few grand inside the engine to make it the nastiest Honda on the Sth Coast and it will still look the same on the outside.
With the exception of a new set of Mikuni RS34's hanging from one of Mikes stage 4 heads that you just had to have.  8)
Then there'll be the brake/suspension upgrade as well.

Sorry if I'm putting ideas into your head Pete but I don't like backing off just after you've indirectly been told NO YOU CANNOT HAVE IT.  ;D

Funny that she has no problem if I bought a POS and built a cafe, spending big bucks and still it would only be worth marginally more than a POS, but can't spend on my dream bike...go figure.
Perhaps she was bitten by an 1100R (like crocs and rotties) in the past and just doesn't like them ;D

Hey Pete, I think you're a good bloke and are very honest for telling us about your domestic situation, but I think your HTFU comment is probably appropriate right now, if the only reason that your life is so "good" is because whenever there's a confrontation you back down to her.

Let's face it, you probably own everything you've got, you work hard, you're not putting your family's finances at risk, all you're doing is taking up a bit more room in your garage with something that you've always wanted, something that will continue to grow in value. If you let her win every argument, then you're not living mate, and as much as I hope reincarnation is real, there's no guarantee that you're gonna get another run at it, so I think you need to make a stand.

Buy it, bring it home, she'll either get over it, or get out of your life. Either way, you've made her understand that while you appreciate her opinion, you're not ruled by it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
