1974 Honda XL 175 any help appreciated
« on: November 06, 2011, 06:35:38 AM »
Been a while since i've even viewed the board, but I got a question for anyone out there who might know. I've had this '74 XL 175 for a couple years now, and would like to do something with it, but am having trouble finding parts and much info on 'em. It was in the barn on my in-laws property out here, and to ayone's knowledge, it never ran from the time they got it home. My wife's cousin bought it second had in the '80's for almost nothing, got it home and it didn't run. Come to find out, the cam was broke in half on it! It's been torn apart pretty good by him back then, I think he was like 13 or so at the time, but I've pretty much got everything for it, save for a few odds and ends. I don't know much about these bikes, and need to try to find a cam for it. Most of the guys I know would have hauled it in for scrap, but I think it would make a neat little flat track style bike to putt around the farm with. The headlight , turn signals, all that crap is pretty much wasted. The frame is solid, and even all the brake cables still work. If anyuone knows where I can find parts, hell used I don't even care! It's gonna be a stripped down little #$%* if I ever get the cam fiasco sorted out. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I would try to buy a whole engine for it from a salage yard or a parts bike on eBay.

Good luck

I had one many years ago, my recollection is that it was slow but made a nice trail bike.  You can probably still get a new cam from Powroll...Larry

Thanks for all the input guys. Doum, I'll get back to ya when I start ripping into her. I'm sure there might be something else I"ll need though.
