Use a very small piece of copper tubing and smash one end with a ball peen hammer so that it makes a spoon-like end. The softer metal can be used to prise the seal out and clean the groove without scratching it up.
Use only soap and water and hydraulic brake assembly lube on brakes- other solvents can damage seals, is what I hear.
