A quick intro. I've been restoring old Hondas for about 15 years, ranging from Z50s to 305s from the 1960s. I am a very active member on the Honda 305 forum. A friend recently brought me his 75 CB750 that has been sitting in his garage since 1997. It has a lot of period mods, oil cooler, oil pressure gauge, 1/4 fairing, Koni shocks, a/m fork springs, superbike bars etc.
He always wanted to do a dual disc set up back in the day, but never had the dough to do it. Fast forward 15 years, and it's in my shop, and he's still dreaming about dual discs. The one brake that is there needs to be completely gone through. I will most likely replace the master, rebuild the caliper, and add braided lines. Rotor is drilled, so I will have to drill the other to match.
I've searched and found threads on the subject, but nothing that answers all of my questions.
Exactly what parts do I need to do this? Another stock caliper, caliper bracket and rotor, and then modify and shim to fit on the left? I saw the forum member that sells the brake line kits has the option to purchase a second line for the dual disc conversion, and will go that route. I also read about the mods that need to be made to speedo drive and caliper mount bracket.
I've also seen that an early GL1000 front end can be used. Do the triple trees mount right up in the CB frame? What about mounting the stock gauges? Anyone have an opinion on which would be either the best and or most cost effective? Sorry for throwing so many questions at once!
Thanks in advance, Davo
