Still having wiring problems, I think, but it is weird!!
« on: May 18, 2006, 09:24:07 AM »
Hey Guys,

I finally got all 4 plugs firing on my 76 750F, but something is strange.  FYI- new coils, plugs, plug wires- As you sit on the bike the coil on the right side- cyl 2&3 is magnetized when the key is turned on and it has juice to it.  The coil on the left side- 1&4 still has juice to it but is not magnetized.  When the key is on, I can take a screwdriver and touch the head of the screw on where the coil mounts to the coil mounts and it is magnatized?  What is going on?  Is this right?  THe other coil does not do this so I think one is hooked up right and the other wrong, I just don't know which is right?  One more question.  Compression on all 4 is good, have spark on all 4, timing is spot on but I cannot get the 3 and 4 cyl to run.  The 1 and 2 get hot when cranked but 3 and 4 do not.  Carb issues?  Took the boals off and all 4 are getting fuel and all the jets are clear.  What else could it be?  If the float height in 3 and 4 is not right would it cause the cyls not to run?  Thank you in advance for any help!!!!

The 2 point sets determine which coil gets power and they alternate.  Only one is active at a time.

There are two jets per carb.  The slows being the smaller ones and most likely to clog.  Did you check those, too?

Does the bike give you the same issues while you are not sitting on it ?
I ask because I have heard stories of when the rider sat on the bike, connections/grounds were affected, etc.. A buddy of mine had a CB550 once that would run great, until he sat on the bike, and it would die. Couldn't figure out what the issue was for months, until he realized that the added weight of him caused a short in the wiring somewhere (pinched by the seat)

Dont ya love electrial  ;D

TwoTired-  All 8 jets are fine, none are clogged.  Proteal- the seat is not on the bike yet so that shouldn't be an issue.  Both sets of points are firing- cyls 1 and 2 run fine so both coils are working too.  I think it must be a carb issue?  But what about the right coil becoming magnatized with power to it?  And Proteal- I hate electrical!!!
