Looks awesome! But $18? Spraymax 2000 clear is usually $25 can by itself. That was the best deal I found on the interwebs and I went through 2 cans of that. Then the 2-part primer, paint, Polishing compounds, w/d sandpaper, Stickers and striping, etc, etc. Just sayin it adds up to $100 pretty quick.

Shop around some then- I called my order in because I prefer speaking with an actual person and that was what the charge was minus shipping- actually I think you can find just the high gloss clear on ebay for 17$- tip *  if you email seller and ask for free shipping on a few cans you can usually catch a break.


Actually if you calculate the value of the left over stash of high grit sand paper along with the time I spent prepping and the resperator I had to purchase at some point along with the cartridges and not to mention the overhead of having a dry warm dust free enviroment yada yada yada-      sure let me gauge  up a number - point was 18$ worth of product used here not 25$ not 100$- 18$ (plus shipping). If you need a good deal on cut vinyl graphics. Hit me up with a PM _ have helped several members here out.   Otherwise please feel free not to haggle me in my own thread I find it quite rude and poor form.

Yes, It was a goldish orange color I shot over on the tank side covers so it went pretty far. If it would have been black or a dark color on a light surface prolly woulda been two. Imagine painting a white wall white versus painting a white wall black. If you are painting a similar color over and old base it takes dramatically less paint-

Too cool. I have no painting experience but I'm gonna give it a go. Prep is sanding, cleaning, priming, then painting right? Going from black to gray with black stripes. Just tape and paint stripes after gray is dry right? A Honda stick on emblem/ decal, then clear coat... Sexy...

Yeah man you betcha- this is why I post and come here to learn and share info -

on the non metal pieces , the side covers and seat pan I sanded even with 400 then 600 (side covers were already bondo'ed ) and used the old paint for a base to shoot over .  The seat pan was finished in white gel coat so it was paint ready pretty much . The tank stripes are vinyl decals (and no one would no it unless they got right up on it and felt it . I sell all kinda of racing stripes so hit me up if you need some on the cheap.  The badges were 8 bux shipped from china! Still have to finish striping the cowl waiting on some bits and pieces so I can tell what height I want the stripes to hit.

If you practice spraying on an old paint can or something it will help you get a fell for how to spray with the spraymax can . It shoots a little different than enamel, a much finer mist. Also wear a respirator, this is not krylon and has some seriously  harmful stuff you dont wanna inhale.

hey I'm gonna try this out in the next week or so, any idea where I can get a color code for a 1975 CB750F in yellow so I can have them mix it for me in the 2k can?

Best advice I can give is if you have anything wiith that ccolor take it to a bodyshop and have them photo index it .They have a special camera that will give you a ppg. Code. Which you can then use for the spraymax. I recently did a tank for a 75rd350 the ppg code came out as a match for Boeing 747 orange! The match was spot onn.com

I've done some rattle can jobs in the past on some exhaust parts. Did you use any kind of spray booth? I'm trying to decide how best to set things up at home.

Well, I work at a sign shop so we have some nice spots to shoot paint but that was actually shot outdoors on a calm day - after a few hours of sun I brought it in the shop to cure up.  I have erected mini paint booths from drop clothes and frame work in the past but really if you pick the right day it is alot less hassle . Be sure to wear a respirator this stuff is hardcore and you do not want to breath it .  Dont shoot it in your attached garage or you could poison your whole family.  Really isnt rocket science, when I first started I was kinda nervous but after I popped my cherry it was like anything else.  You might get sags, runs or orange peel but for the most part you will be proud of your work and the glossiness and durability of the paint goes a long way.  Also like anything else the more times you do it the better you get - so what are you waiting for jump in head first-

one more thing - do not shoot this below 55 degrees- If you have to warm a shed up however you can then remove flame /electrical source BEFORE shooting and make sure your tank or whatever you are painting  is at room temperaature(along with the paint itself), viola'

Could you elaborate a lil on exactly what you ordered in your rattle can?
I went to the website and feel a little confused with the multitude of
options. Im looking to keep this as simple as possible due to being a paint dummy
I want to try exactly what you did, only in a viper blue metallic.
I like the idea of a the clearcoat already mixed in, last thing i painted the clearcoat ran and botched everything.
And can i just use some basic rustoleum rattle can primer underneath,
or do i need something specific to work with the y2k paint?

this is also 1 can spray job. +1 primer+ 1 black+ 1 klear koat...so 4  rat kan needet

Folks, you can have those cans filled at many well equipped automotive paint stores.  They usually cost around $25 per can and they are filled to order.  But there is a down side on them, it is this.  There is a very very very limited time in which you get to use this stuff and the clock starts ticking the minute the paint store fills the can.  Keep in mind that this paint does not harden by way of evaporation of solvents, it hardens by chemical action between the paint and a catylist (hardener).  When the paint store mixes up a can of this stuff for you they squirt in the paint you order and then they squirt in the hardener.  You buy it and go out the door, but you have to keep in mind that the hardener is doing its thing.  You can not buy this stuff on friday and expect to spray it on the parts the following sunday.  By sunday the can and the paint inside of it will be as solid as concrete.

Get your parts set up first.  Get them clean and get them on your paint stands.  When you go to use this stuff shake the hell out of it for a long time and while its being shook you should be tacking the parts.  One thing you will want to take into consideration is the temperature when you intend to shoot the stuff too.  If the temperatures are moderate where you are painting don't buy the paint too early in the morning and don't buy it late in the afternoon.  Also, and this is a big rule you should never break when painting, make sure that your parts and your paint are the same temperature.

Wow!  No kidding?  Well, that is quite something then.  In that case I can't think of a reason on the face of this earth that if anyone was going to do a rattle-can job on their bike that they'd use anything else.

I know this may sound out of character for me to say, but I actually know that a good spray pattern can be got out of a plastic nozzle on the top of a can.  I have seen them, on old Martin-Senior spray cans.  They used to have a fan patterned spray cap that actually worked.  It gave about a 6" pattern, which is all you really want for painting bike parts, and while it wouldn't lay down paint like an Iwata touch up gun it still did a very passible job.

Anyway, on the coverage thing.  It really doesn't take a whole lot of paint to do the tins on a bike.  When I mix up the paint for a typical 4 or 6 part (tank, fenders, helmet, maybe sidecovers, no fairing) paint job for the base color I usually make up about 4-6 oz.  That's plenty to do 3 coats.  Good paint gives good coverage with light coats.

they also seem much more helpfull than rt66, I tried calling rt66 a few times and it rang for 3 min, then hung up both times, gary at recolor is trying to find a match in 2k for my 76 sulfur yellow and has been helpfull via email and the phone
