Suspension Geometry Question
« on: November 10, 2011, 06:32:08 PM »
Hey all - 'nother suspension question here.

I have a k5 which will have Progressive springs in '77 F front forks.

I have a stock 18" rear rim and a 16" drop rim available.  I am trying to determine the effects of running either rear rim with a 14.5" rear shock.  I have read Hondaman's thoughts on rear shocks and I think I understand why he likes the 12.75" shocks for the increased trail and the balance of turning speed and stability.  I do like the idea of quicker steering (recognizing that the flexing of the 70's tech frame and the quicker steering might increase the risk of tank slappers) due to steeper rake.

However - I am wondering if the 16" rear rim with the 14.5" rear shock might decrease the rake and increase the trail enough to be a viable combination.

Feel free to shoot down any of my cockamamie thoughts or misunderstood ideas... This is definitely a rookie understanding of a complex topic.

Thanks,
Scott

I would stay with the 18 in the rear for ground clearance and if you are worried about head shakes then fit a steering damper, i run them on all my bikes..... ;)

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.
