CB400F With Comstars?
« on: May 20, 2006, 07:43:03 AM »

A while back, I was corrected because of info I gave on Comstar wheels being from a
CB400F. I got to thinking about that because my 76' CB400F had the silver ones similar to the
CB750F. If Comstars never came on the 400, then what do you think they came from? They
look like they belong there so, whoever put them on, did a good job. I'm sure not going to
              take them off. Anybody??

I'm pretty sure that the trees from a CB400T will fit right in the CB400F frame. Not sure about the rear :-\

As far as the looks, matter of opinion. As far as agility,we'll see.

Hef, I'll have to go to my Dad's to get a picture of it. I picked it up as a nonrunner, engine that turns over and feels good project bike for $100. My Dad, who'll be 81 this July, was visiting one day and (after looking at my accumulation of "Project" bikes) started talking about something to work on. Next thing I know, I'm taking it down to his house for him to work on. He's been mechanicing on something for a good portion of his life. Soon as I can I'll get a picture of it though. Keep in mind that it needs alot of work.   Later on, Bill

Agreed, well the silver ones do as AFAIK the front was only made in 19". The black "reverse" comstars are much better, they take tubeless tyres and they made an 18" front, look much neater too. And of course you can fit twin discs. Yes, you need to change the yokes (and forks), CB400N is the required UK model, and make up brackets to hold the 400f clocks as the mountings are different. Swap the 400N fork springs for 400F ones with preload spacers, as the spring rate is much higher.

I hope it helps

They did make some of comstars that were not silver but were not like the 650 "reverse" black.
Seen them on a early 80's cm/ct 400 twin.

Terry, seems like I remember you previously talking about several different type of
Comstars and I guess those are another type. As you know, I've got a set of the black 650 type
to put on my 77' 550K.

And to those who don't like Comstars, I really don't care that my 400F didn't originally
come with Comstars or not, they're staying. :) ;)                                    Later on, Bill

Hey, Thanks for the info Jorge. Sounds like you hit the jackpot with that one!!
Most everything has been put on hold until I can get The 80' CB750K ready, connected to
the sidecar and on the road to, as Terry (cb650) put it, Practice!    Practice!    Practice!

Then, I can get back to the 77' 550K with that seat, those
Comstars and whatever else. Catch you later.    Bill
