True/False triple tree question.
« on: November 10, 2011, 03:48:27 PM »
T/F - A k4 top triple will fit on a k8 lower and stem.  ...I searched but people have claimed both sides.

I'm asking because I want to run clip-ons and I'm going to shave the handlebar mounts.  I would just shave the upper from the k8 but i'm still riding fairly regularly and I'm trying to get a head start on winter work.  :)

Thanks!

K4 will not fit on K 7 or K8 lower..

 Skaving the upper from a K8 will have huge holes

Ok now another two questions:

1. I don't see why it would be - but since the geometry is apparently different, would it be unsafe in any way to use the k4 triples on the k8 frame? Can I still use my k8 wheel?

2.  I could just fill those spaces w/ weld on the k8 top triple before cutting and it should have a decent finish ya? - I would have to fill the [smaller] holes on the k4 top triple too...

Ok I guess that's three questions  ::)

Thanks again!

 You can swap triples as a set.
 K8 will leave a grape size holes, the earlier one is pea size.. lotta heat to put into the tree.

Good point - I hadn't thought of that. Thanks man!  I'll probably just use the k4 set then.
