daul disc conversion
« on: November 19, 2011, 06:51:14 AM »
Hi guys, wanting to do a dual disc conversion for my CB 750 Honda k7, but to do the conversion you need a CB Honda 500 speedo drive plate, as I see there is no plate but only a chrome cover, they say that you do not use the chrome cover only the plate but wheres the plate,  can anyone shine some light on this matter, cheers Steve750four.

The 500 part does not help, I wish they could correct that information. The stock drive plate is behind the speedo drive. It can be modified or there is a member here that makes a beautiful billet one. It is listed under parts for sale i think.

There were two different drive plates on the 750s. The K7 is locked to the hub by the chrome cover. What some guys have done is machine the back side of the disc to accept the tabs on the drive plate, effectively using the disc as the cover.

I had the back of the disk machined to hold the speedo drive:

The other way works just as good but I have Lester Wheels which don't have the flats on the hub like the spoked wheel does.

Correct the CB500 info is incorrect. I pmd cben years ago and he agreed. But the post has never been corrected. This post has a discussion of the issue, various DIY fixes and msg 14 has a link to rangelovs billet piece.

Without the flats on the hub the billet piece by rangelov won't work, as nice as it is.  You are left to either stake the cut down speedo drive to the hub or have the disk machined to hold it in place.  drilling into the hub so close to the bearing surface scared me enough to have the disk machined.

Thanks guys for your help on this matter next step is to find out who makes up these speedo drive  plates, there is a site which is www.info classic cycle city.com his Web site is out of action at the moment, also cannot understand how a left hand caliper can fit on the right hand side of the forks when its actually the opposite hand, I have my fellow SOHC  club members here down under ( OZ  Land ) who also are persuading the dual disc conversion,  info on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Steve750four.

The 2 halves of the caliper come off the bracket with 2 large bolts. Swap them around and voila, you have an opposite hand caliper. That's the least of your worries.   ;D

The member that makes those adapter is named Rangelov - here is a link http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=76835.0

Hope this helps!  Post some pics if you can.  I am getting ready to do the same thing to my CB, using Rangelov's adapter.

Evidently as Scottly and Rookster posted, the Rangelov adapter does not work on a K7, which is the bike in question.

I also have a K7 that I was hoping to dual disc. Perchance it's possible to machine the flats on the hub to take rangelov's adapter.
