200 bikes, what a hoot, still buzzing!
« on: November 12, 2011, 05:48:02 PM »
Just done the Christmas Charity Toy run with over 200 other bikers, man I haven't ridden with a group like that in years, so many old faces, met up with a guy I rode with 40 years ago! :)
Such a worthwhile event, nice people (after my week of #$%*e this is a real uplifting thing) good company, massive bikes.
Mine was the only SOHC4 too, I kept pace with an even older bike, Norton 1969, noisey and hated going slow ha ha the guy looked like he had owned that monster since new. At least it made more noise than my cam chain rattle ha ha.
Harleys, Hondas, Suzis,Yams, Triumphs, you name it lined up along side each other for a good cause, big hearted bikers and their ladies.
Buzzing, just buzzing, def doing that again next year. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

"Blondie" behaved like a perfect lady, surrounded by bikes much younger she held her head up and rode proudly in amongst them. ;D
Handled like she wanted more road and blasted past the newer rice rockets.
At one point I had to pretend to be the Police bike as traffic wouldn't stop for our convoy until I parked across two lanes, that's all I had to do just sit there and cars didn't question my authority to stop them ha ha.
At one point we are blasting along Awatoto highway and I see a wee brown furry Teddy being flicked up by cars, it has obviously been dropped by a rider who will be awfully embarressed when we stop to hand over our toys so I drop out of the group and turn around, again no one is questioning the Police bike on the wrong side of the road in the cycle lane. I get to rescue Teddy and stuff him into my pannier bag but by now I'm twenty miles behind the last rider so I blast into town and shoot over the hill to meet them in perfect timing as they ride past the harbour. As we approach the park for the bar-b-q I see a rider two up on a GSXR, his pillion has a half empty backpack where I can see a lone white Teddy. I make sure to park along side them "How many Teddy's did you have when you started"? I ask her. She is really upset that they have lost a passenger until I pull brown Teddy from my pannier, most grateful pillion, English by her accent to find they have their pair to donate to the kids...what a day...what a hoot! :D

Good stuff.
I don't go in our toy run here due to the overwhelming number of f'wits who spoil it for the others riding like idiots and just making it a stressful day. I know a few other guys with the same thoughts. There's always a couple of prangs, sometimes serious. I just donate to the charity instead and stay out of it.

No prangs thank God and everyone was well behaved, I was probably one of the only bunnies on this years ride.
