Ok, you talked me out of buying a CBX.
I decided to have the best do the carbs. Half the cost are the parts some of which are better than OEM. I have done as much reading as possible and bought several informative manuals. At the time this was a highly engineered motorcycle, especially the carbs. A ton of machining and parts. This just contributes to the cost. Maybe this was the CBX demise as the Gold Wing was also produced.
I figure this is just part of owning the bike. I have no intentions of ever selling it and it has already been "Willed" to someone else.
I have yet to total the entire cost and actually I did not need to do anything as it was a fine running bike, but 30 years of neglect and my need to make it nice won out.
A few issues with the needle and seat arise around the 25K mark. I have 18K on it now. The work involved just to remove the carbs is somewhat extensive and since everything is off now it just makes more sense.
So, all new calipers, refinished rotors, new pads, (had sintered, tore the rotors up a little) rebuild front forks and all the seals that go with it, (air and fluid) Corbin seat, plugs, alternator brushes, tires and a large order of OEM parts including grips, levers, all cables,
on and on.
The thrill of the ride? "Priceless"
You will find this interesting Steve-o.
