Congrats!
I have learned that the CBX needs only two things.....but needs lots of it......$$$ and time....lol

After getting into the carbs i realized i should have just paid the $500 to have it done....
I wound up with a sticking valve so the head is off right now but should be back on next week.

If you dont mind me asking what did you pay?
Cool front brace

Not at all. $2500 with title. Brand new tires to boot.  ;)

great buy.

Honestly, the pictures look better than the actual bike but it should clean up nicely. It has that "patina" look.

He had it listed for $4000.00. Wanted me to have it because he saw some of my work. I wasn't going to buy it but figured I would not lose at $2500.00. He made the offer, not me.

I'll defiantly be sending you PM's in the future. Also, I need to find a good CBX forum.

www.cbxworld.com is good.  It is a smaller community due to the smaller number of bikes sold. But there are good people and good resources available there.   I am there with the same username as here.  There are others that are present both here and there

I ran a small wanted ad for parts and the same guy contacted me as in the first post of this thread. Price lowered also.

Problem is that it's a 1979. Not sure how many parts actually interchange.

tt

3 exhaust systems
3 tanks
spare engine
titled 1979 cbx with the head off
3 heads
2 shop manuals
4 sets of carburetors
fenders, wiring harnesses, seats, tail sections, forks, 4 extra wheels (79 version), calipers, gauge clusters

Got your PM but figured i would respond here

I dont think much will work on the PL bikes.  Ive learned that there are alot of parts that look the same but are not
But the twin shock bikes are worth more then the PLs.
I really want a twin shock....

There is $2500 worth of fun there.  Im sure that you could flip one of the CBXs and cover half the keeper one.

Going to setup a look see on the 1979. He is asking $2500 for all now. Ton of parts, all boxed. Pictures are when he brought it all home.

PO had a hard starting issue. Had to prime the cylinders. The guy I talked to today told me to check the vacuuming servo under the tank mounted to carbs.

Yeah there is a auto petcock under the tank

I have heard of them leaking and letting one cylinder full with fuel and bending a rod on start up.

I believe this was on the 1979 model, rectified in 1980.  We have a fuel diaphragm sitting on the carburetor rack. As you know, there is a rubber diaphragm that closes when you shut off the bike. If this sticks or is shot then the cows will come home before it fires.

I have an email into the PO to see if he checked this. Who knows, it might fire right up.

My brother had a '79 and loved it, a woman turned left in front of him. He survived, but the bike burned as the magnesium finished off the rest. I had an '81. I sold it because I also have an '81 Wing and thought the wife would rather be on the 'Wing. As soon as it sold, she THEN told me I should have kept the '81 CBX! I couldn't believe it! I liked the '81 better than the '79, but others will of course have different opinions. I would buy an '81 again in a heart beat! I did not find it hard to work on, but I did find it to be really top heavy. Still, a CBX will IMHO go down in history for exactly what it is....awesome.

The one about having them remake them?
Nope.  They are kinda into that guy tim and the guy in FL so it seems that no one would want to step on their toes or something

The one guide was $50ish retail but now is NLA...and NLA as of like a year or so ago.
The guy louis on the board bought everything he could so he is the only one that has them.
$475 for new, 375 for a zero mile school bike one and 100 used.

I called cycle X and they told me they were not interested as there was no demand and it would cost to much.
cant see how much it could really cost if they are selling repops for under $35

but i guess it is what it is

Well, being I can't get any shipping quotes  ::) on another purchase I decided to see if I could get this thing fired up. There was a lack of fuel to the carbs so I bypassed the automatic fuel valve and cranked it over.  ;D

Sounds wonderful, needs some tweaking.  ;) Compression was low so I soaked the cylinders in Marvel Mystery oil. Compression jumped 30 psi in number 1 cylinder. Soaking them again for 3/4 days. Bike sat for the better part of 6 years although the PO tried to get it running by cleaning the carbs. Fuel valve is probably shot.

Motor might sound noisy in video but actually sounds just great!  8) Clutch rattle.
