Well, I've been pretty busy with several early morning sessions working on the CBX. Yeah, 3 AM to around 9 AM before the heat.

I started in the back and working forward. Still have a ton of OEM parts on order. Basically a good cleaning with new chain, resurface of rear rotor, new sprockets (18t front, 38 t rear) and tire. Rebuilding all the calipers with everything new.

I highly recommend true-disc out of Michigan. Ask for Tom. Turnaround was same day. Fronts still to do.

http://www.truedisk.net/Home.php

Valve cover, exhaust collars and a few other items are out in Michigan for ceramic coating. Should look great! Valve train in great condition and very clean.

Before removing the plastic with Corbin seat.

Even got a early morning ride in today. July to boot!  8)

Very busy Steve.

The cover along with the cam caps and exhaust collars should make it pop. I also used a product called S-100 to brighten the engine. This is not my cover pictured.

Pretty much done with smaller CB's. Always looking however.

My friend in Lake Havasu has one. Other than not the original color, it is very clean. Bought locally too!

I'd like to have a CBX and a CB1100F in my stable too! AND, speaking of CB1100F there is a red one here in Colorado Springs listed on Denver and CS Craig's list for $3900. Moderate mileage. Haven't seen it in person though.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

The project thickens!  :D

I have decided to pull the carburetors and send to Mike Nixon for a complete rebuild. He does fantastic work and is the number one guy for CBX carburetors.

http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorcycle/text/cbxcarburetorworkv4.html

If you are thinking of doing a CBX project just have a deep wallet.  :P Between the carburetors, new boots (6) and clamps (12) I'm just shy of a grand.  :o

Did I mention ceramic coating of valve cover, exhaust collars and cam cap covers and the new gaskets to install?

I better not. I don't feel so good right now.  :'(

I have to drop the engine but since I'm this far down it was just a matter of sliding the rear wheel up, dis-connecting the clutch, choke and throttle cables, air box clamps as well as all upper engine mounts and one upper upper mount on the back.

Good Lord, it will take months to get this back together.  ::)

Jaguar, if you're reading this I'm acquiring a lot of spare parts if you need anything.

Ok, you talked me out of buying a CBX.

I decided to have the best do the carbs. Half the cost are the parts some of which are better than OEM. I have done as much reading as possible and bought several informative manuals. At the time this was a highly engineered motorcycle, especially the carbs. A ton of machining and parts. This just contributes to the cost. Maybe this was the CBX demise as the Gold Wing was also produced.

I figure this is just part of owning the bike. I have no intentions of ever selling it and it has already been "Willed" to someone else.

I have yet to total the entire cost and actually I did not need to do anything as it was a fine running bike, but 30 years of neglect and my need to make it nice won out.

A few issues with the needle and seat arise around the 25K mark. I have 18K on it now. The work involved just to remove the carbs is somewhat extensive and since everything is off now it just makes more sense.

So, all new calipers, refinished rotors, new pads, (had sintered, tore the rotors up a little) rebuild front forks and all the seals that go with it, (air and fluid) Corbin seat, plugs, alternator brushes, tires and a large order of OEM parts including grips, levers, all cables,  ::) ::) on and on.

The thrill of the ride? "Priceless"  ;)

You will find this interesting Steve-o.

Some good news this morning. The boots appear to be rather new as well as the clamps. Just a good cleaning. Saves a couple of hundred right there.  8)

After everything was disconnected it was time to lower the jack..

OK, now a little more than pop off the carburetors..

Boots look great..

Than make sure they are drained for shipping. Six (6) week lead time.

On to more cleaning, adjust the intake and exhaust cam chains and inspect the 24 valves.

The engine was dull and flat brown looking. Normal thing in that era as powder coating was not widely used as today.

I bought a product called S-100 which is an engine brightener. I had to order from Amazon as places here just look at you with a stupid grin. It worked nice however I'm not sure how it will last. I think HD has a similar product called "hog spit".

I used some sandpaper on the upper cooling fins to brighten them up a little. You can see the dullness in the picture.

Yeah, six of those little puppies and more parts in them then I care to count.  ::) Off to Mike Nixon yesterday.  ;)

Ceramic parts are due on Monday.  8) Still waiting on OEM order and new oil cooler lines.

This morning I had to relocate the mounting holes in the rear luggage rack. Shipping out to the Powder coaters tomorrow. Brackets, rack and grab rail in gloss black.

I thought about selling it as one just sold on flea bay for $192.00!  :o

Man, you would think this CBX was made by Ferrari!  ::)

Looking great

I hear you about deep pockets for these bikes.
I did the carbs myself and after doing I would have gladly paid the $500ish in labor to have them rebuilt

Thanks Jag!

My post in the CBX World forum has the info to get this done. CBX tras.

My carburetors are with Mike Nixon at the moment. I completly agree with you. Not my forte'. Probably going to run around $700-$800 for mine. Zinc plating and such. I'll never have to mess with them after that which is a good thing.

If I can help with your build drop me an email. Getting a lot of extra stuff IE: cables and such. Would rather you get some use versus sitting in a box.  ;)

Yeah, $995.00 for the speedo cluster the other day. There is an OEM tach and speedo on flea bay now. I'm thinking the speedo will go for $800 and the tack not far behind.

Here is an example of what I am having done. Zinc plating all the parts, cable brackets, choke bracket, carb steadies etc, with polished bowls.

No...the valve cover is ceramic coated.

In the carburetor pic the carb mounts, cable brackets etc. are zinc plated. Carb tops polished out by hand.
