Rebuild and tweek
« on: November 15, 2011, 01:32:49 AM »
I've been visiting my aunt, who has gone blind pretty much. She had to empty out her attic to have some blown insulation put in. She said they found some sort of heavy thing that she thought was a jack.

I got a first glance at it and I knew what it was.

Maybe we'll plug it in  this week and see what it does. There are gaskets and parts available and even a rebuild thread onine.

Maybe I'll do something with it if it doesn't work. I guess the Faeminas are a desireable unit.

Never even heard of one but it sure is a beautiful Deco design, and glancing through the rebuild link makes it look more difficult than doing the top end on a bike :P ::)...Larry

It looks like a commercial type of machine since I see it has some kind of air fitting on it. But I agree, looks very cool. Would be nice to just set in some glass cabinet for it's looks alone.

I could be wrong as I've never used a fully manual espresso machine like that, but I think the fitting in the back is for a water line.  The water fills the main tank where it gets heated, then you lift the handle to fill front chamber and pull down to supply the pressure to force it through the grounds.

I think that is correct. This is not a photo of the one I have , but I understand it can be plumbed in with the right fittings.

I find it way cool what stuff you can find about something like this online.  I look forward to hear if you can get it to work.

In the last couple of months, I've researched 2 different types of items(Coleman camping lanterns and stoves, and vintage Briggs & Stratton engines).  I was amazed in the amount of info I found on each of these.

Heck, I should have plugged it in hours ago. The element works, less than 10 minutes and it's rumbling and blowing steam out the pressure valve. The steamer valve works, and the lever puts out hot water just fine, so it should make espresso.  The only problem I see is that I either need to tighten the top a bit more or find a new o-ring for it. A little bit of water and steam came bubbling out around the top.

Only coffee in the house is instant, have to find some fine ground stuff tomorrow.

Uber cool, and probably worth some good coinage to boot!  Me and a couple friends of mine kinda consider ourselves to be afficianados.  Some great coffee roasters here in the SF Bay Area.  Cool find!

Okay, All I could get at ALDI was breakfast blend and french roast of beans.

I got the ground stuff.

There are two 'cups' (pods) for the coffee, one is pan shaped with bigger holes, the other is a smaller strainer with a more coniic or chamfered shape and smaller holes .

What do I use? Just both and figure it out, ;eh?

Sounds good to me, just wondered if they were diferent for different coffee.

I did a couple pics with the toy cam now that there is sufficient daylight.

I think I'll fire up  a double shot!

Do you know about cleaning this thing?  I know running vinegar through a regular auto drip coffee maker cleans up deposits, you figure that's safe for this one?

Okay, so the first run was a mess due to operator error. I probably overfilled the tank where water came out the release valve and

Second try tastes pretty good without grounds, but I think I let a bit more water through than necessesary and it is more like very strong coffee, but good.

I will try to measure up a smaller shot and it will probably as good as the starbuck.
