Been a while.
« on: November 17, 2011, 06:19:56 AM »
So, its been a while since my last post or update to my 77 550, but I've lost a little steam. I'm waiting for a new valve-cover after completely being a bone head and cracking my original one. (I refuse to go into detail.) I also need to pickup my bores and head from the machine shop. I'm leaving for vacation (holiday as some of you put it) and then when I get back I intend on getting into it. It doesn't help that I have about 4 too many hobbies and a bunch of projects going on simultaneously. Anyway, just venting because my lack of motivation disgusts me. Hope everyone else's projects / bikes are coming along / running well! I'll have updates in a week or so.

A bit of r&r is probably all you need to get your mojo back. When you see all those bits back again I'm sure you'll get back into it. Play a few  youtube vids to get the spirit back.
Enjoy your holiday.  ;)

Hey bud, I don't have a whole lot of other hobbies, but life in general seems to get in the way of getting work done.  It always amazes me how some guys can find time for their projects, or just get stuff done FAST.  My projects always seem to go on in perpetuity. Ah well, c'est la vie.  Enjoy your vacation and come back with renewed energy!

Weather happens too. I lost a bit of steam since the weather has turned. I do have some winter projects for the bike like redoing my head gasket but I've been putting them off until I get really bored. If I can't ride then I don't get too excited.

Just have to remember how fun it is to cruise around on one of these old SOHC4's.  I just put my 750's engine back together last weekend after being apart for the better part of 6 months... I had forgotten just how awesome it feels to ride that 70's 4cyl engine.  Of course, now its almost winter here in Wisconsin.. oh well..

It only gets worse as you get older.  Winter used to be the time to really produce next years crop of customs.  Now I am lucky to get my dead ass out of the chair and get in the shop.  A few weeks off and I will miss it and make it a priority again.  This working for a living is getting in the way right now.

Take some time off and enjoy yourself. As a professional procrastinator myself, I have found that the key to successful procrastination is to shed all vestiges of guilt. That's the key. I took 17 years to finish my 550, with 3 kids, a busy practice, and coaching all coming (conveniently) between me and the restoration. BUT I eventually got it done. Take your time, relax and enjoy life. Get back to the project when it feels right. The bike ain't going' anywhere.

enjoy your vacation. i will have one in spring fishing the trout streams of penna. as a good friend always says...dont feel like the lone ranger dude. we are all in the same boat to some extent. my bike is a classic rider..which means it runs good and i dont have a endless budjet to fix it up to restored. but i have the winter to do some things. a 3000 square foot garden keeps me busy through spring and summer, and family and work also. trust me i know how you feel..had my bike hanging from the rafters in my shed with the front end ripped off impaitently waiting for the mail man to deliver parts to get me back riding. was a brisk 40 degrees here to day with wind but took a 1000 mg #@#@itall pill and went for a ride.

Twisted

I have had my 750k1 on the shelf for 36 years.  Finally got back to her last year after I discovered this site.  The host of information and help on this site has rejuvenated me.

I tend to work on her in spurts ... three weeks at a time and about 2 months in between.  Unfortunately that four letter word "work" gets in the way.  Hopefully next summer she will return to the road.

I am sure that you will revive yours.  I find tinkering away to be enjoyable .. the potential ride will be a bonus.

CrankyOldGuy, I agree with you about the"host of information & help on this site"; I am a member on another motorcycle forum & post there & ask questions.....I think about 10% of the members do get back to me on that forum, which is Good for THAT one. This sohc4 forum is the best all around motorcycle forum I have ever found & it's VERY encouraging to receive answers to my posts.
