The styling is a bit odd, but amazing that you could walk into this Honda dealer in the 70s and order a brand new 970cc Honda Four - you could even choose to have it built on a Dresda or Egli frame! 

I contacted the owner's club a while ago and they produce piston kits, 4:1 exhausts, aluminium engine covers, seats and fairings to support the Japauto CBs still on the road.

Tell you what: you my english-speaking friends know about Rickman and probably about the swiss Egli, but many haven't heard about the french Japauto. He was modifing CB750's, not only on the engine but also on the chassis.

In those times, foreing imports were banned in Spain unless they had about 50% of the parts -can't remember the exact number- produced in Spain. So the first CB750's that arrived to Spain were Japautos. You can imagine the final price: the price of a new Honda + the price of the Japauto work + the price of the transport from France to Spain. They were just for the well stablished. I only know about two Japautos in Spain. They also did some Kawasaki specials.

I must admit that I have liked Japauto's since I saw one on a visit to Europe in the 1970's, but my favourite has always been the Seeley 750's, although Fritz Egli's creations were very sexy indeed! Cheers, Terry.

Do you remember I told you everybody about a DVD I bought in my last visit to Germany? It was about the Z1, and had an interview with Egli himself. I know this is a Honda site, but if you are a Z1 lover you have to have that CD -though it's in german-. If only for the imagines, the soundtrack, and the side-by-side test at Nurburgring with a modern Z1000. There are also some cover-up on modified Z1's. Very entertaining.

The CD is not subtitled and it's mono-language. Spaniards live in a continent the size of Australia, and being near some other nationalities, many of us learn some other languages apart from our mother tongue -you aussies really don't need to-. I'm quite proficient at german, so it's no big problem for me... but I can dub it for a price. 




Though the cover is in english, the audio is in german ??. Have a look at emule, maybe somebody had ripped and is available for everybody.

I have a photo or two of a seely framed, lester(I know it's spelt wrong but I'm pissed)mags, yoshimira, round 900cc I think. The bike is in pieces in a friends garage at the moment. It was a special machine in it's day, it even handled well.

OK youze, I actualy built an Egil Z900 for a customer--what a pain in the ass it was to build--went like #$%*(e) off a chromed shovel when it ran but a real swine to assemble all the parts, also had use of a rickman cb750 and dealt with Paul Dunstal and Dave Degens in person fairly regularly. OK thats all the name dropping my brain cells can take right now i am off for a beer--real beer that is not the watered down gnats piss you get in the US and thats before you get into the "lites"
