« on: November 18, 2011, 08:29:59 AM »
I will be looking for another bike in the spring,so far here are my top choices.Criteria is,small(250-400)
                             twin or single
                             modern(ish)
so my favorite choices are 1.honda hawknt650gt(I should never have sold mine)                                  2.honda gb500(though,pricey)
                                           3.suzuki gs500 twin standard
                                           4.Ascot single
                                            5.Ninja 250
any opinions?

Skip the Ninja 250 - too small, physically.  At least for me - 5-10 and 200 lbs.  And I just don't really get off on revving to 14,000 rpm.  Although, I really DID like the 75 mpg!

Skip the GB500 - too pricey.

Go for the Ascot 500 single!  I've owned two of 'em - electric start, disks at both ends, TONS of aftermarket support and a great forum over on Yahoo!Groups.  All the little maintenance tips to correct the minor flaws they DO have.  And 60 ~ 65 mpg, to boot.

TONS of fun, and nothing bland about 'em (like the GS500s)

Good luck with, however you go.

Yep.  Skip on over to the SRX-6 thread on here.  The Ascot picture I posted was my 2nd one.  My son crashed it and it destroyed the gauge cluster and the headlight.  You'll see the round units that replaced 'em.

The gauge cluster was off a mid-70s CB360 and the headlight was a halogen generic unit off ebay.  Looked much better IMO.  Unfortunately, while the speedo was accurate, the tach was not - it always read WAY high.  I never DID determine if it was a generic problem (internal gearing, etc) or if I just got one that had a weak spring or something.

Still, it's an easy fix to that square headlight and gauge cluster.

I have a friend that has my old Hawk GT.  If you are interested, he does want to sell.  Located in Davenport, Iowa.

I don't recall mileage, but it has a SuperTrapp exhaust and  I think a Progressive shock.  Has CBR clipons and has custom rearsets.  He has the stock pegs and clipons.  It has a Air tech rear section and steel braided brake lines.  He should have the stock seat, exhaust, and rear cowl too.  88 year and grey color.  The tank is newer than the bike.  Has a stock Honda tank I brought when I was working on it.  I found the bike to be quite comfy for 300 mile days.   As you may know, a Hawk is a great handling bike!
Any more info wanted and we can exchange phone #s
