1975 cb 750 F should I buy it
« on: November 19, 2011, 06:01:15 PM »
I Have had 4 550's and still have 2,  I have never ridden a cb 750. I am planning on going down to Indy and look at it around Wednesday. It is a project, other than a king and queen seat it appears to be all there and run but it has been setting for around 5 years.

What are good or bad years, models?

Mark

The  '75 "F" is a good year-  has the better brakes and spoked wheels.
Only you can decided it the bike is 'worth it' to you.

But if it's cheap, and you want it, then buy it.  If not, then someone else probably will.

Why do people ask other folks on the internet whether or not they should buy something?  I understand they are probably just venting some of their excitement/enthusiasm, but still...  If you really want our opinion, post pics, the price and give us some more information.

Even then all that anyone here could say is whether or not it is reasonably priced.  No one here can tell you whether or not you should purchase a motorcycle.  You're better off asking your wife or your mother that question.

with love,

Well fang,
I have got rid of my go fast bikes and my dirt bikes, all I currently have are 2 550's, they are great bikes and there are no real differences from start to finish of the model run, not true with the 750's.

The bike is ugly it can be bought for 500 or less, it is on craigs list  in new castle so if anyone is interested maybe they can buy it before I can get down to loom at it.

I wasn't asking if it was a good deal or if it was worth it, just if it was desireable model year

Most who have them really like them. Do not have the 77-78 valve guide issues  ;)

PS-This is just down the page a little if you get bored tonight  :) http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=55178.0

Hey thanks for that link,

I was wondering about the rear disk brake and the funny shaped side covers, the bike I am going to look at, is the same model as the one in link, it just didn't look like what I think of when I think of a cb 750

There are no "issues" with the 75/6 F bikes.  They have improvements to the brakes, frame, and engine from the earlier years.  If you were expecting the old fashioned stodgy look of the K bike maybe its not for you.

Change is good. ;)

The listing only has one pic, the seat will have to GO and the tank looks pretty rough, not that I couldn't save it. I am looking to get a 750 so I'll  have another model to make more aluminum parts for.

I like the older k's but I like the vintage super bikes and dirt trackers really well

The problem with ugly $500 bikes is that a thousand dollars could easily be spent on it to make it roadworthy [tires, major tune-up, exhaust, paint]. But on the other hand, if you are just looking for something to put your wrenches on, it might be perfect for you.
Seem like the best thing to do is to go see it in person, if it feels right, hen buy it!

I think it goes with out saying, if you buy a $500 bike your gonna be spending a good deal of time and money on it. The thing is, for me anyway, you have no idea what your getting when you buy a $2000 Bike and nothing pisses me off more than somebody telling you how great somthing is then having to spend time and money fixing somthing they covered up.

I paid 2,500 for my K3 in May. Most people on this site will think I overpaid for it. But I felt it was worth it and I bought it. Well, I put almost 4K miles on it without one little burp this summer riding it until I ate the sprockets in October. So, my point is, if you want it, you like it, buy it. Because in 5 years from now these bikes will be rarer and quite frankly worth a heck of a lot more $$ than they are now!

Raef ; I've got less than $1000 in my bike. Traded a $500 dollar car for it and it could be "ridden" as it was when I got it ! Certain things about it when I got it were not to my liking but I'm a fabricator with vision and ability so I changed what I didn't care for. If I had the $$$ I'ld buy that bike in a heartbeat as long as it has a clean/clear title in the fellows name and it could be at least started with no bad knocks or horrible smoking. You (or someone you know) can always change what you don't like. And for $500 you know your not getting a "showroom" bike that will need absolutely nothing, but you have a cheap enough (to me) basis to start from. Just my 2 cents worth.   ...cougar...
