good dog or good woman

I hope you don't really think the two are interchangable.

Simplify, simplify - Siamese Mauser in 45-70  :)  Rugged and minimum moving parts.

Also muzzleloader as a backup when ammo runs out.

now this is funny i was just riding around at work today thinking about this. my main source of ammo would be my trusty 35 year old wrist rocket slingshot i can neuter a gnat off a charging bull at 80 paceses  with one of those. plus i would have my 22 cal you can do anything with a 22 you can with any other gun. plus dirtbike and a old chevy grain truck, can food, seeds for planting, antibiotics, and just in case zombies you would have to capture one to study it and see what confuses them also anything flamable because i like to set crap on fire anyway.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

i'm actually moderately prepared for social meltdown or apocalypse, and zombie/velociraptor invasion.

- big fancy tree fort deep in the woods, but within 50mi of home.  can't see it unless you know it's there, and you'd never find it unless you were lost.
- based on a zombie apocalypse scenario with minimal gear, i'd have to probably go with:
     - semi-auto .22 rifle with low-velocity (sub-supersonic) ammo, 4x scope.
     - 9mm pistol
     - alcohol stove
     - E-tool
     - obligatory machete
     - hand-crank radio
     - LED flashlights/batteries (with strobe, of course)
     - tactical gear/camos
     - MREs for a week
     - 1st aid kit
     - firestarter
     - water purification tabs and water bottle with purifier straw.
     - 50' of climbing rope w/ basic climbing rig
     - 2 blondes (preferably twins)

my strategy is to be able to move quick if needed and carry everything I need on me, scavenge/hunt what's needed.  after the 1st year or so, things should settle down and re-stabilize a bit, and i can probably move back to the city and have some kind of fortified shelter with nifty things like a bed.
