CB350F - is there supposed to be a bolt here?
« on: November 24, 2011, 05:47:09 AM »
Hi there. Have begun disassembling my new-to-me '72 CB350F. I noticed what appeared to be a bolt hole in the cases without a bolt in it. See the photo; the photo is of the cases below where 3 & 4 exhaust outlets are, right below the 347CC stamping. Is there supposed to be a bolt in there? Do you other 350F owners have one? I can't see any obvious witness marks that were left by a previous bolt, so maybe it's just an alignment hole that was used on the assembly line to guide the cases together or something. Also it is a complete through-hole, i.e. the lower case isn't threaded. Both cases just have an unthreaded hole of the same diameter.

Can other CB350F owners reply and let me know if they have a bolt in that position? Thanks!

So what is it?

Ive wondered the same thing.

Its very near the clutch cable routing, i did wonder if the cable was ment to go through that but though that would be odd considering the heat!.

I am guessing it might have been a tooling attach point during engine assy at the factory.  Someone knows this kind of trivia here..........

Oh man, that's where I attach my decelerator pump.  Didn't your bike come with a decelerator pump?  I wouldn't put that thing on the road without one!

I thought that was for the harmonic exhaust balancer, very crucial and just used on the 350.

I bolt superchargers in those holes, good, sturdy mounting spot!  ;D

They are locating holes for the CNC fixtures that were used for machining the cases.
