Checking in and posting latest projects.
« on: October 14, 2011, 01:08:54 PM »
Thought I'd check in, no SOHC 4 yet, but I did pick up a 70 SL350 which I intend to
use some of the parts from to get the 71 going.
Thought I'd post this here since the project section is devoted to CB750s

Also, latest projects that are now taking precedence.
And I sure wish Uncle Ernie was around to help with the Velo.

61 Velocette Venom in Thruxton engine build, just have to put the engine together.
And, a 73 Ducati 750GT.

My wife and I flew out to Cali. to box these up and ship them back from my cousins.
Just odd bits for the 750 and she'll be running. I might paint the frame and tank later this
year after the season ends.
The Velo was truly a basket case. ok, not really everything has been rebuilt and Mart
had done a conversion to belt primary in the 80's. It sat since then. So, I have to reassemble
the engine and put it all together on the bike.

Velo boxes in background.

the bits,

RM I remember playing with a Thruxton ( got to love an engine that when you look down the carb it looks like a garbage can lid is moving up and down) it had the whole thing, fish tail muffler, in black with gold pin striping wish that it was me that owned it rather than the ejit that did, Oh weell.

Forgot to mention I've finally just about finished the patrs rack/bin for the Red Hunter so I can start sorting and muttering and actually figure out what I've got and what I need.

Hey Robbie, not sure how well up you are on old Brit iron. The Norton featherbed came in two types, slim line and wide line, yours is the wide line.
Good luck with the build. 8)

Hey Sam, I've heard as much about the wide line. The Lyta tank is for the wide line frame. The rear wheel is laced
to allow the off set needed to get alignment in the frame. That's the plan anyway. You might get to ride a proper bike
when next you come to visit. ;)

Update, Ducati 750GT under it's own power. Nice to ride the first and then get on my 916 powered ST4 to see how far they've come. The 750GT is a blast and a bit confusing to shift with the brake.  ;)

Starting on the Velocette next..

Hey Robert, I don't think anyone's gonna mind you not having a SOHC4 yet. After all, you've got some mighty nice material to play with, as it is. Looking Great BTW and I'm looking forward to seeing more, as you can get it done.  ;)   Bill

Agreed.  Bring that bike over to the project thread.  Pretty sure there have been some non-sohc'rs in there before.  Looks like this will be a fun one.

thanks Bill, and I'll post up the Velo build on the project page Chris. I keep looking at the
old SL350 and thinking I ought to get on it to and screw some ice studs in the tires for this winter.  ;D
