The second part, the gasoline in the toilet, is an old urban myth. I've heard it with insecticide and acid for cleaning the flush.

Nonetheless it is funny. But to create that kind of boom there would have to be enough vapors in the room and toilet to alarm even the dumbest of people. I think my eyes would be burning, and not from what I put in the toilet.

Naw, it wouldn't be anybody we know cuz it's a BS story that's been floating around for years.  The reporter must have been desperate for material for her column, so made up the business about her friend.  Another example of truth in the media.

The scary thing is, I'd bet a lot of us have done similar (maybe not as bad of offenders) things..

When I was a bachelor, I had a ground level apartment, and when I was rebuilding the motor of my car, I rolled the engine stand into my kitchen (with engine attached) so I could continue to assemble in a relatively clean place (better than outside!) over a hard floor.  Now, I know that sounds pretty bad, but, I did cover the carpet with lots of newspaper before I rolled the engine stand to the kitchen's tile floor to avoid stains, and also the only parts that came into the kitchen were clean parts that were being assembled.

I've also once before (before I had kids!!) taken carburator parts that had just been submerged into the carb cleaner can overnight into my bathroom to rinse out the carb cleaner in the sink.  I took super anal-retentive precautions to avoid drips, stains, or damage to the house or the inhabitants, but still- if I tried that now my wife would kill me.  Tell you what though- those jets, needles, screws, float bowls, vacuum cylinders, vacuum caps were all SPOTLESS!   ;D

I was guilty of other things that most would not believe in the past. Yes I cleaned parts in the house. But when Jeff Foxworthy said "If your wife has ever said, Honey please move the transmission so I can take a shower" you might be a redneck. I nearly died laughing.  ;D This was more turth than he would ever know.

Carb spray only stinks to those not working with it.  ;D

I live in an aprtment in a dusty area and I routinely work on my bike in the apartment.  In fact, it's located about 10 feet behind me right now since I like it being in a climate-controlled environment.  Every morning I see it covered in condensation and dew which I KNOW is rotting it away.  No matter how I piolish and wax the chrome, I am getting new pitting and rust spots on it.
The apartment smells of gas and oil a bit, but I got used to it.

You guys have it too hard. Here we have winter, so of course there is an active excuse without heated garage. Good thing is the bike work turns the missus on. The smellier and dirtier and more intense and loud the work is, the better the payoff afterwards.  ;)

Well then she would just freak out in my shop (she might pass out). It sounds like a war zone many times and is hotter than a $5 hooker on lottery winnings  ;D
