Replacing my float needles, should i use the rubber tips?
« on: December 08, 2011, 04:58:56 AM »
Have a 75cb550f and my 2 carbs keep leaking gas.I want to take them apart and buy new needles and seats, and yes, clean them and check for any crap to see why they are leaking but i decided while i have them apart just to replace the parts.  just wanted to know should i use the org. ones that came on the bike or should i install the rubber tip ones i see that are offered for the cb's? And on either one where is the best place to get them? Thanks

Have you ever given the carbs a real good cleaning yet and set the floats etc ?  If not I would give that a try first before spending money on new stuff.Tips here on lapping in those old needle etc. and make sure your float bowl gaskets are good. Also make sure you turn your petcock off when the bike is parked.

Those symptoms you describe sounds like the floats are sticking.

mario  There are lots of reason they stick 1) buggered up at the hinge 2) trash between valve and seat 3) float hanging up on bowl gasket 4) float has gas in it and a few I can't think of.
