Well, I guess I'm going to build this bike after all
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:44:24 PM »
I don't know a lot of you, haven't been here for quite a while myself.  I got started on building a Cafe 550 about a year ago by buying two old bikes and then a bunch of replacement parts.  I've got everything I need to build at least 1 bike and probably 2 if I had to.  Then in the spring we found out I had a nasty cancer and we were also starting to build a house for my son so the bike sort of fell off the map.  I told my son he could have the bike(s) but he hasn't had time for them either.  The cancer has been cut out and I'm back up and walking now so I guess its back on me.

The bike is sort of loosely pieced together right now out in a shed (with air and electricity), I think I'll yank the engine out in the morning and get going on it.  At the moment my only plans for the engine other than cosmetic improvements (paint, powdercoat, and polish) is installing one of the 650 cams I have for it.  If anyones got any hints for cam replacement to make it quicker and simpler I'd be mighty interested.

Aw hell, if you're going to live, build a bike.

You have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Congratulations!  Tough guy battles cancer and helps his son at the same time!

I'm about to do some 550s too.  I found several good posts on the 650 cam install here just by doing a search.  Read the material carefully about which tach drive to use, etc.  It is basically a swap of the original parts, no scary machining or tweaking involved.

We missed you sir.  Keep up the zeal for life and don't let it get you down.  Life completely sucks at times, but we are all in line to help you kick life's @$$.  ;-)

Now, regarding those 550s, I'll give you a hand if I can when I'm back in the states.  I can do that now that I've bought a 2005 Sprint ST 1050.  I'm like a proud new father... who hasn't seen his child yet.
