Hello from Europe (Holland)
« on: November 07, 2011, 01:48:01 PM »
Hey people,

A short introduction: I am Michiel (Miob) from Holland. I have a CB750K2 which I love, but I'm not necessarily a CB fan. I just like bikes with character. Besides my CB I have a BMW (caferacer) a Yamaha XV920 Virago (chopper, build with a friend) and a Yamaha SR500 (about to be customized, also owned together with a friend). As you might have noticed, I am not a purist. So my CB is not in it's original state either (it wasn't original when I bought it either by the way, it was a wreck).

To be honest, I came to this site because I have an issue with this bike and I hoped the people on this site can help me.

Michiel

Thanks for the welcome!

I don't really know why the brakeline looks so weird on the photo, it's a tiny bit warped, but not that much.

I 'build' the bike myself, bought it as a wreck and turned it into this on a very, very tight budget. There is a youtube clip of it, so maybe you've seen that. It's also been on a few websites (BikeExif for instance), so maybe you've seen it there.

I dig that bike. You must be pretty folded up to ride it without rearsets though...but i wouldnt change a thing on it. You did a great 'budget' build with it. I have seen other "cafe" bikes that are 90% aftermarket fiberglass that are void of the cafe spirit which that bike has. Dig it. Ride it....sell that BMW and commit 100% to this forum and be; one of us, one of us, one of us.....zone

AHA!!! I knew I had seen this somewhere! Post up some more pics, I know you have some! Love how you worked out that seat without cutting the crossbar out, very smart move

It ran good for a while and most of the times still does, but not always. Not really sure what the problem is, might by fuel related, might be the pods, might be electrical. That is why I asked that in the tech section ;)

And don't know where the header pipes are from, they were on the bike when I bought it, but I had to adapt them (the front wheel got caught between the two middle pipes under braking).
The muffler is made out of the shell of a Yamaha Virago muffler. I made the absorption damper that's in it myself.

I am 2 meters tall (about 6 foot 7). It doesn't feel folded to me. The bike is quite comfortable  actually. I did not build this bike to be a cafe, I build it because I wanted a bike that could take a passenger and that could ride in all weather conditions (the BMW has velocity stacks). Not going to sell the BMW. Not ever if I can help it.

I didn't want to mutilate the frame too much, so I definitely wanted to keep the crossbar. It was a bit of a gamble with the seat (beforehand I thought the seat would look too skinny), but it worked out pretty good imho.

I shot these photos a few hours ago:

Nice man, only been on her for what, two weeks and you're already in the Inspiration Gallery?  If that doesn't say it all, I dunno what does!

Great shots btw, you've got a damned good eye

Hey man. I saw your 750 a while ago and just wanted to say I really appreciate your bikes. As I make decisions on my current project, I have to keep telling myself "DON'T just copy that 750 with the bare tank and maroon seat". Glad you joined the forum here.

I think this is my hands-down favorite bike on this site.  I absolutely love the look of it, especially the brown leather flat trackeresque seat.  It looks timeless - I can understand why it was on BikeExif.  What a beautiful job.

For the record - I'm about 197cm and I also have stock footpegs.  It can be done.

Welcome michael. I like both of your bikes. I think you will like hanging out here and get a lot of good info. Its a pretty good group of guys here who like bikes of all kinds.  I dont think you'll get hassled like you did at adv forum.

Thanks again!!

@ Stev-o: The problem was irregular (so not every ride) loss of power at high speeds. Changed a few things on the bike and it has not come back since. SO hopefully, with help from this forum, the problem is solved  8)

@Roach Carver: Aside from a discussion about what is and what isn't a cafe racer that was taken way too far by one or two members I can't recall any issues on ADV? Love that forum too.

@SRbakker: I was actually really surprised when I got the email by BikeExif for the CB, personally I always thought my BMW is more special than the CB. But I can't complain, he mailed me again for the BMW a few months ago :)

I have one more bike I haven't shown yet on this forum. It is a bike I bought together with a frienbd of mine with the sole purpose of having fun while building something. We completed it recently, but I have no photos of the completed bike yet (hopefully I get the chance to shoot some tonight). It is a Yamaha XV920 Virago. Most noticeable changes are the rake, exhausts, carburator and seat, but the only thing we didn't touch is the rear wheel.

Hallo Michiel,

Welkom op dit forum. Je motoren zien er apart uit, niet geheel mijn smaak, maar zeker gedurfd. Proficiat.

Welcome to this forum. Your bikes look different, not specially my taste, but absolutely bold. Congrats.

Groet, Rob
