rear brake hub 72 cb500

pulled apart my rear wheel to do some cleaning/painting. on the rear brake hub there is a groove that looks like it would fit an oring/seal. the parts book does not show one from what i see. should there be one there. it would be on the outer diameter of the hub.

I believe that is a dust groove john and no there would not be an O ring in it it is so the dust does not lock the hub to the drum
when you own a motorcycle the wife does not have to find you handy she just has to find you

Sure you're not talking about the opposite side?  There's a couple there.

if its on the brake backing plate side it just looks like that,,if its as per fastbroshis posted pic you can run without it ok.
