Hello,

Just installed my ported head and CB650 cam in my 77CB550.   Definately more fun!!   ;D ;D ;D

Problem is that my cylinder head side covers are leaking.   What's the secret?  I installed new o-rings and tightened the $#@% out of the side cover screw.

What am I forgetting to do?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

the vertical bolt that holds that holder that the end caps screw to has an aluminium washer,,remove the assembly and make sure where the thing sits on the head isnt burred, also make sure the top and bottom of that holder arent burred, clean them up if they are,,throw away the aluminuim one and put a 6mm copper washer top and bottom on that vertical bolt,,often this leaks from that bolt and not those o rings, because its all hidden you cant exactly see the leak.

This information is GOLDEN !  Thanks so much.   I just thought they were a bracket to hold the side cover.  Bet I didn't cinch them tight like they should be.   I will pull the covers this weekend, clean things up.   In the meantime, I will see if I can snag up some 6mm copper washers from the hardware or local automotive store.   THANK YOU!!!!!

no sweat, some hastily taken blurry photos, but youll get the idea,,make sure the flat surface of that little bracket is flat,,they get bent and can be easily made flat again with a small hammer.

the left hand washers are old factory ones, the right hand is a new slim copper one, these are what you want,,if you get ones not as slim its ok so long as the hole is 6mm,cheers.

  Thanks Dave!

keep your donut send me a beer, dont over do those vertical bolts, just nip it down plus some, its a shallow short thread, those brackets are left and right aswell and should have an L or R stamped on them.

;D   10-4.   Won't over do it on the bolts.   Don't wanna break nothing.     Sure hope I get a few good days next week after taking care of the leaks to ride and make sure all is sealed up correctly.
