Is Tom (Anubis) still doing them? You better check with him, I had a feeling that he wasn't? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ya, I got an email from him saying it'll cost me $35 + $11 shipping. I asked about different templates, and he said he only used one :(

I'll have to ask him if he could use a template that I send him.

It's probably been covered many times before but after searching for the last half hour I come up with so many different opinions that I'm confused.

I drilled out my K6 rotor tonight.

The edges of the holes are puckered slightly above and below.  I've read differing opinions on whether to chamfer the holes or not.  I can't imagine why it would be good for the brake pads to leave the holes as they are...

I have a chamfer drill bit should I remove enough material with this 45 degree bevel bit to leave a smooth surface?   That seems logical to me, but would love some expert opinion.

Thanks!

Lookign throught the 19 pages of rotors....do you have the template for this pattern?

Hi SKTP,

I didn't use a template.

I got a little plastic protractor from the art store like this:

I centered it and started by marking 0, 90, 180, and 270 with a Sharpie.  Then I kept halving the marked distances until I got the interior row marked out.  It was surprisingly quick and simple, and much quicker than making my own paper template...

Much earlier in this thread you may spot my drill press jig for these.  Here's a picture I snapped of another pattern I drilled just for fun on an old rotor I had laying around.

[/img]

Luckily this drill press has a round drilling platform with a 1" hole in the center.  I rummaged around the plumbing section of the hardware store for the bits that you see and used electrical tape to pack out "bearings" between the parts to keep it all solid.  The unit is bolted through this 1" hole from top to bottom.

A rotor will rotate freely on this jig with less than 1mm of runout.  I didn't center-punch any of the holes, but did use really good bits.  I've used the same bit on 2 rotors now and it still is fine.  Based on Terry's recommendations I've used undiluted dish liquid  mmmm lemony...  and cleaned the press up with  water then a spray down of WD-40.

Good luck!

ive looked into pattern as well and i decided on a shamless copy of cyclex....

180 holes, rows alternating 3 and 2 holes seperated by 5 deg. hole diameter 8mm. holes layed out on concentric circles 9mm appart.. rows of 3 holes are 9, 27 and 45mm from inner edge... rows or 2 are 18 and 36.. (see pic)

I decided to clock them to match the rivets.. and make 3 "dummy"/lightning holes in between the rivets.. still 8mm in dia, but just sunk 3mm into the disc, not thru it

I'm dragging up an old one here, cause I still can't sort myself/

These 2 jpgs have been offered up as 750 templets. When printed they are to small?
What am I missing?

I found this thread a week ago. It seemed to be the most definative yet confused thread on the subject ;D
It took a while to realize some of the links to templets are broken, and some of the jps. when printed didn't really fit on my rotors that well. With no written sizing instructions, I got tired of wasting paper and carried forward on the thread.

I used the jpg above and as I stated when moved around and blown up 150% on a printer you get 3 pieces of paper and they fit like a dream ;D

My tools.
No fancy rotating drill press. Just a small "sit on the counter press" with 4 $7.00 Titanium bits that I got at the hardware store.
I punched the start of all holes while paper templet was on and then removed it.
I used dish soap about 4 squirts per hole, in, out etc.  I just held rotor in place with my hand.
Very happy with my new skill and the end result.

Here's a photo. 8)

Perhaps a FAQ.    I may have missed it but I found it a long search to locate on "drilled rotor pattern/templet".
I still couln't have even have done it without this forum though ;)

So cool! I made that template...I have a bunch more if you guys want them. I can upload them as PDFs so you can scale them up...they are made in Adobe Illustrator by the numbers and are mathematically sound...but please note; I'm a graphic designer not a rotor engineer.

Good point Andy. The site is so big at this point it is hard to find things. A lot of wisdom gets lost in the noise.

Autodesk Inventor:

Drill press, 1/4" bit. Northern Tool brand drill bit couldn't manage one hole. DeWalt drill bit did 10. Milwaukee drill bit did the other 26 and it's still sharp. Chamfered with a 1/2" drill bit.
