First Ride! & thanks to the forum
« on: April 11, 2016, 05:46:21 AM »
After two years I got my build up and running well enough to take a good and proper ride. It was a blast. I went back and messed with the carburetors some more, replacing the aftermarket parts with OEM jets and screws. A reading of the plugs, and a few more adjustments and she is running pretty strong. There are some more adjustments to be made. I have yet to re-install the OEM needles. Once I do I think the lag I feel in the middle range should be cured. That, and another valve adjustment and it could be golden. I also had an oil covered boot when I finished, so a new seal where the shifter is is in order.

Other than that, what started as a veritable scrap heap, is now a very nicely handling, quick little bike with a mean-ass snarl. I can't wait to ride it again. I can't thank enough, all the forum experts and novices alike, for helping me learn more than I ever thought I would about these bikes. It has given me something to look forward to everyday. More than just a hobby or a passing interest, it's given me permission to be okay with who and where I am in my life. We never stop learning- if we are lucky. Thank you all.

I'm still not done with her but here is a before and after shot:

Good on you ...

I'm so close as well, I just need the motivation to keep pushing to get over the last couple of hurdles and I'll be where you are.

Yeah, once it LOOKS like a complete and working bike, it takes some extra push to get back in the garage and actually get it running right. It took me longer than expected because I acquired a 79 cb750F that I got involved in too. I'm doing a top end rebuild on that one right now, after riding the crap out of it. So I was stepping out on you guys with the DOHC fans on another forum.  :-[

Thanks everyone. It's a fun little bike. Really turns heads too.
