My '74 Kawasaki H1 500
« on: April 01, 2016, 07:31:42 AM »
Some of you guys may remember, I restored this bike last year. Totally rebuilt motor, bored, new Wiseco's, rebuilt crank, no expense spared.
Had a little trouble tuning it, but after tossing the aftermarket carb brass, the bike ran great!

Well, it was a beautiful day yesterday [85 degrees!] and I thought I would take it for a ride.
It was running great and I was really pushing it but I missed a shift...WTF!

I over rev'd it and not sure what happened, but it will barely run now. I was lucky to get it home, less than 5 miles. I was so sick, I just parked it in the garage.

Well, I just called my local Kawasaki dealer, explained every little detail to the service manager. He said "no problem, you must have bent a valve, bring it in and we'll fix it for you".

I dont typically go to the dealer, but I dont know these Kawasaki's as well as my Hondas, he sounded very confident in knowing the issue and being able to repair it, so I am going with it.

What would you do?

What valves, intake or exhaust? Last time I checked the H1 2 stroke doesn't have any. I would question the dealers confidence.

Heh, yeah, valves... ::)

Maybe a broken ring or blown seal.  I would seek counsel somewhere else other than that dealer..

You guys are just too smart!    Me going to the dealer should've been a dead giveaway - I don't even know where the Kawasaki dealer is! Nor would I ever go there.

I thought valves in a 2 stroke was a bigger clue.... :P  Not to mention, you not knowing the difference... ;)

There actually are some check valves in the oil injection system, but they could not bend.

Over revving wouldn't effect them either... ;)

You might first check your points Stev-o,that over-revvin' might have spun a bit of points cam lube onto the contact surfaces.. 3) sets of points,just sayin'..  ::)
I then clean the contacts w/ a bit of light filing and check timing again.
