J's Garage Kawasaki GPz
« on: November 28, 2011, 04:47:30 AM »
As some of you may already know, Sam Green visited me and my racing team in Finland for the 2011 Finnish Championship finals. He brought us a whole lot of good luck and we all did quite well  ::)

After a few (or not so few) drinks I decided to make Sam an offer  :o
My brother has a 1983 GPz 750 and I'm rebuilding it for him this winter... so? I asked Sam if he would like to come over again in 2012 but this time bring his shiny white leathers and do what he does best: gardening  ;D (Sorry Sam, couldn't resist  ;) )
Plan is as follows: I rebuild the bike and Sam races it.Simple?

Here's the Kaw before I started the work:

Here's the same bike four years ago ridden by my brother.
It was his first time @ 1/4 mile.

Not only improving the looks and handling, all the internals are being worked on as well  ;)

Polished, balanced & shot peened rods with new OEM bolts: (Thanks Mike!)

APE cylinder studs & heavy duty headnuts and main bearing studs, thanks to Big Jay for selling me a set that isn't actually listed ;)

Already have a brand new Mike Rieck ported head waiting, Megacycle hardwelded cams + slotted sprockets, stock carbs with Dynojet stage III kit & K&N filters, FBG undercut transmission just to mention a few things ;)

Work in progress.

I'd settle for a 9.99 as my mate, a former top fuel rider from the 60s never managed it, would be nice to get there first. no way it would be done but we can dream.

Here's the exhaust I'm gonna fit on the bike. It came from an unknown 600cc(?).Titanium, very light and loud + cost only 50€  ;)
Needs some gentle cleaning but has no dents etc.
Propably gonna use the V&H downpipes that were on the bike, they need coating though, age is showing on them big time.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make him the first 9.99 second man.Sam Green will be that man.
Better than he was before... better, stronger, faster.

Sam,9.99 can be done with a 600cc bike theses days.......and Jim's got one,ok maybe not the one you'd want to build.!

Absolutely doable, depends on class rules etc. but not an easy task, at least in the class I race in, limited wheelbase, no bars, no airshifters etc. and this is the class Sam will be racing in when he comes over ;)

Different story over the pond though  8)

Billy, this is a mate of mine by the name of Alan Tinnion. He quite often drops into the 9s on this more or less stock R6. Seen here at the Houghton Tower 8th mile up hill sprint. ENJOY this little screamer.
