Painting spokes is easy if you drill a bunch of holes in a wood block to hold them.
Just use a wire wheel or sandblast them then hit with some self etch primer before painting

I painted the front set. Sended them, hit them with 000 steel wool, used etching primer, dura coat gloss paint (3 good coats).......let dry, looked at them for a while.......and ordered new front and rear set from David Silver Spares. Wasted about 5 hours over about 3 days.

Oh well, lesson learned. On to the forks, frame, seat, tank, and everything else on this build.

Thanks for all of the input.

the factory spokes are cadmium coated i have had luck quickly dipping in acid and then deactivating with baking soda and then  polished them with a bench grinder with buffing pad and #6 polish. but only if they are not really bad shape if the nipples deform or wont come of just get a new set of spokes. and yes i have had good results with the cheap spokes but the chrome tends to peel very easily and wouldnt use them for hipo!

I can replate the spokes for you as long as there aren't and deep pits that will cause any safty issues. I use Caswells system and have very good resultes. I can post some before and after pictures. Let me know how many spokes and if you need the nipples plated too.
