Donnie Williams - 2nd run http://www.NTMSC.com

For a rider of such a huge heavy machine to have that much control....I'm just gobsmacked! :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

its all about ridin' that back brake, you can hear him dragging the engine speed down with it.  i do that a lot in slow speed corners and it really helps with control.
but ya... that's one helluva rider!  i came across this vid a few months ago, and still amazed.

Well Frank, i don't think that bike handles well at all, i think that guy handles it extremely well considering its limitations..... ;D

Seen that one before Hush, that guy can ride. +1 on the rear brake for low speed control..... ;)

That was amazing, and (before I read the little tete-e-tete between Frank and Mick) I was gonna say, "Who says Harley's won't go around corners"? (But now I'm too frightened...........) ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Every time Harley gets a mention Frank pops up and says the same thing, just keeping him honest.... ;) :P

He rides all day, every day, and practices stuff like that.
Any of us could do the same.

Besides, he doesn't care if he grinds away at the asphalt, he didn't pay for it........

Yeah thats right mate, and Evil Kneivel practised jumping cars regularly, so any of us could do that, and the Beatles just sat around writing music and jamming all day, so hell, any of us could do that, it's not like the guy has any talent at all really, it's just repetition........... ;D

I saw this video -or one like it- couple of years ago and was astounded about how tight a corner you can take on a bike. I had never ever taken a corner that tight.

So one afternoon I got with my bike to an empty parking lot -the same where I used to go when I learnt to inline skate- an started to do figure-of-8 with the bike -I learnt while inline skating that if you turn all the time in the same direction you get seasick, while doing figure-of-8 you avoid seasick and practice both left and right turn evenly.

Well, I was doing wide 8's and consistently making the 8 smaller. There came a moment where I was taking sharper turns that I had never taken before! I found myself tilting my body outside the lean to compensate the bike weight and the low speed lack-of-centrifugal-force.

Long story short, there came a moment where I didn't want to try any further for fear of dropping the bike. I would not forgive myself for crashing my mint bike with this kind of practicing. Had I been a cop with a bike that the taxpayers are paying, I would have not minded to go ahead with the practicing.

Evel Knievel didn't have any talent for jumping a bike. What he had was a lack of fear of being hurt. I do have fear of getting hurt -or being killed- jumping a row of busses. The rest is just a powerful bike, a ramp, and wide open throttle -and a little jump at take off. Freestyle motocross riders do it all the time.

And the Beatles..... well they didn't seem to have much skill in playing instruments. I'm a lousy guitar player and I can play almost any Beatles song without much trouble. Repetition and practice can take you there. What I don't have is the sensibility to write a beautiful song using just three or four basic chords. You get born with that, or with the lack of fear in the case of Evel Knievel, you can't train that.

The cop in the video has amazing skills, no doubt about it. But I agree with tpb music that I could do the same if the taxpayers are paying me by the hour to train, with a bike paid by the taxpayers, gas paid by the taxpayers, and repairs paid by the taxpayers. On the other hand, if I were an american taxpayer I would be glad to pay those expenses in order to have a public servant capable of controlling his vehicle under any circumstance, to guarantee his personal safety and his chances of suceeding in chasing run-away criminals or the like.

Ha ha, well there's not much hope of your government paying you to learn how to ride as good as that cop Raul, from what I see on the news Spain is about to follow Greece and Italy down the financial toilet? Anyway, keep dreaming mate, Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yeah, things are going rough over here. If a cop crashes a bike, chances are he will have to fix it himself if he wants to keep his job....  just last week the northern spanish police had to use personal cars to patrol during the voting day, using detachable rotary light and magnetic police signs, for lack of resources...... :-)

But we are diverting from the original thread. I believe that anybody, with enough time, can do the same than that cop -or pretty close to it-. Maybe not anybody has the determination he has to train that hard. From what I read in somebody's signature in this forum, "it is not hard to do if you have the right attitude. Is having the right attitude what is hard".

Hi Raul, it seems you are assuming that everyone is blessed with the same amount of skill, and that they just have to find it, every day i drive to work i experience the complete opposite..... ;D

Hi Raul, it seems you are assuming that everyone is blessed with the same amount of skill, and that they just have to find it, every day i drive to work i experience the complete opposite..... ;D

Well, many people don't bother in improving their driving skills, thinking that what they already can do is enough to take them to and from work. The problem comes when you face a situation you have never faced before.

For example, if you have trained off-road riding, you have less chances to fall on your road bike due to a wheel skidding. When the wheel starts to skid, your brain will automatically command your muscles so you take control of the bike. When the same thing happens to somebody who was never experienced an skid, his/her brain will not know what to do with that input.

You may always drive slowly and think the time -and probably pain- involved in learning how to skid in control is not worth it. Or you may think it is worth to spend some hours in learning a new skill that can save your skin if the situation comes.

The cop in the video has trained hard to be able to put that huge bike to its limits. That takes lots of hour of training, that's for sure. My point is that it is easier to do if you are not putting your time or dough into it. When I did it with my bike there came a time I became nervous of dropping the bike. If the bike would have not been mine, I would probably have gone further.

The don't say "ride it like you stole it" for nothing......  :-)

Ha ha, well I purposely diverted away from an argument Raul, because it's just another one of those situations where we're arguing opinions versus fact.

Your argument is that anyone, with sufficient training and using someone else's bike will eventually be able to ride just as well as that cop. My argument is that some people, regardless of the amount of training etc, will be better, and some will not be as good.

That's where talent, skill, balls, (you know all about the importance of balls, yeah?) whatever you want to call it, comes in. No point us arguing about it mate, we all know that some people are just better at some things than others. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I completely agree with that Terry. You see everyday how people learn to do a new thing at the spot, while others take longer. There is IQ, and in the physical level, there is fitness.

Now you pick an obese man, put him on the very same bike, and he won't be able to do what the cop do, not in his entire life.

Now tell the obese man that if he can't do the same circuit than the cop, in 1 thousand of a sec less, in one years time, you'll kill him after torturing him -obviously I'm going to the extreme- and chances are the man will get on a diet, start to exercise, buy a bike and train hard, and chances are he will suceed in getting better than the cop. Maybe not, but chances are he will. And if not, he will get pretty damn close to it.

It is just a matter of incentives. Offer me 1 million dollars to make it better than the cop and I assure you I would not care about dropping the bike. I will train like crazy.

Neither would my wife. But give her a good incentive -like a 1-million-dollar worth of credit at the shopping mall......  :-) and you may be in for surprise :-)

Practice makes perfect, as they say. BUT..... I believe you have to be given a certain amount of God given talent. That cop is pretty amazing. I grew up on dirt bikes, and can ride them on a dime, but I've never pushed a street bike like I'd like to. Drop a dirt bike in the dirt, no big deal. But I've always been scared to find the limits of a street bike. The road rash get too expensive!
