TO CR OR NOT TO CR INPUT NEEDED
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:50:36 AM »
I have a 78f with a 836 kit, and a 41a cam.  I like the look of the pods but read that normally they are a pain to tune.  The cr's seem to be the better than just the stockers with pods on them.  Any reason that I need to upgrade the carbs or just run the stockers and the box?  I need to make up my mind before the frame goes to powder coat because I would like to remove the brackets for the air box.

Everyone that has them seems to like them so that is a plus.

Thanks,
Brent

Leave the brackets. Tell everyone they are for a option you may one day get ;)

I run a 78F still 750 but with 41a and tuned oem carb's, removed complete choke and plugged the holes where axle goes thru, fitted 150 mains and TinTop's Antipod filter and it runs!!!! No real need for Cr's on the road imho.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Keep the brackets, stock carbs and the airbox- much easier on the pocketbook and the mind.

With the factory box does it flow enough air or do I need to drill a couple of hole and upgrade to a K&N type filter?  Right now my box is stock and I have an emgo filter.  A friend told me to up the jets a size and place a washer under the needles.  Does that sound about right?

I say drill stock box a little at a time Go with the K&N and then do plug chops. Did you read the recent post on the K&N air flow?

I haven't read the post about the K&N flow.  I have had them in all of my cars and liked them.

I have one in my Navigator also have one to put in my bike 750K8. They do look like they let in larger particles? Just something to think about. I think I will still go with the K&N.

I ran jetted stockers on my ported/cammed 836 and had great results. I did use the K&N's, but the midrange was actually better than my CR 29mm's up to 8,000 rpm. It is only above 8,500 + that I needed the CR's increased flow. Try hard to make your stock carbs work - you'll love the response they give.

CR's are designed for top end only, it makes sense.
