1970? cb350?
« on: December 05, 2011, 06:52:29 AM »
Hey there,

Im not new to motorbikes but I am new to the CB bikes. I just picked up a CB 350 TWIN. (sorry its not a FOUR but this seems this is the best most knowledgeable place to ask questions)

Anyways. Im a member of a site called XJ bikes.com where we have a vendor for parts. He has just about every part for every XJ bike ever made. He knows everything about anything to do with the XJ bikes. Is there anyone around here like that?

Also if anyone could identify the year and model of my bike that would be great.

Id like to turn this little machine into a nice little cafe racer but beef it up a bit. My XJ's are larger in size and CC. I want a smaller bike but larger CC.

What size engine could I swap out with this one? What would be a good size to bore this one out to? Where can I get high performance parts for this bike?

Well thanks in advance for your help and sorry if i posted in the wrong place.

Bob

How much money you have at your disposal?  If low on that, do you own a machine shop? Anything will fit into anything, depends on you.

bobbybonez,
I can tell you a bit more about the year & model of your CB350; what's the Vin.# ?
tHE cb350 twin has lots of High performance parts available for the engine & lots of big bore kits & cams also. I recommend that you move this thread to "Other bikes" here in this forum.

Thanks guys, I will move this to the "other bikes" section.

Something like this 450 is what im going for. Id like to keep the bike small in size though but it needs to have some ZIP if you know what I mean.

So my plan is to get the bike in running condition first and not worry about any cosmetics. Then start stripping it towards the cafe. Im assuming I will have to replace the suspension and probably rebuild the front forks.

Also. I dont have the bike yet but I have a friend holding it for me. He lives about 4 hours away from me and I will pick it up sometime after January. He said that the bike seems to be stuck in gear. Was this a common problem on these bikes? How hard will it be to fix.

Thanks again
Bob

Something along the lines of that...

Also, more pics of mine and a VIN number to come later this week.

Here is a quote from my friend who is holding the bike. Some stuff he told me about it (I havn't seen it in person yet)

Bob, the rear tire is basically shredded and it looks like it's jammed up to the chainguard. I think both wheels are salvageable and the frame looks to be good. Tank is iffy - will inspect later in week - and the seat is so so.The gear change pedal kinda swings around and up - maybe a spline issue but I suspect the selector fork maybe damaged. Need to replace speedo/tacho + headlamp and be creative for a wiring harness.

This isn't the VIN number, its the number taken off of the steering head.... cb3503012052
if that helps to identify it at all.

Thanks

You have a '71 (at least Honda calls it a 71) CB350 K3.
The number on the steering neck should be the same as the VIN.

It would take a good deal of work and be an imposing task to fit another engine type - better to just get a 450 if you want a 450 engine.

I looked at the picture and your bike has parts from many different other models...for instance the left muffler that's in the picture is from a CB450 and it looks good.
I have a CB350 and need parts...if you want to go for a bigger(CB450?) and decide to sell the parts off of this CB350 to finance your CB450 purchase, let me know.

Well I really like the Idea of having a 450, but finding one in these parts.... not so easy. If I find one, you'll be on the first of my "parting out" list :) I dont need it all to be from the same bike for what Im planning on doing. For instance, I like the idea of the disk brake on a cafe. But I probably still will be taking alot of parts off for replacement cafe parts. PM me what you need.
