I would clean it and ride as well. Get it all squared away mechanically, then put a bunch of miles on it. You might change you mind one way or another through that.
ON my '74 I had planned to do a bunch of modding, but I got more into getting it running perfect and making sure everything was top notch. I wanted to do a few road trips and I wanted it reliable as possible. Well after putting a whack of miles on it, I realized I loved it the way it was... especially the riding position. So plans to change the bars, for example, were kiboshed. And truth be told, I'm even thinking about getting the original 4 into 4 pipes. Never thought I'd ever consider that before.
