Speedo Removal
« on: December 02, 2011, 12:47:10 PM »
I would like to remove my Tach and Speedo. I've been searching around and I know that when you remove the Tach you have to plug the hole in the cover, but when you remove the speedo do you have to plug the hole of the little hub on the wheel (dont know what its called)? or do i have to remove the wheel and take that hub off?

I've attached a picture of the piece, if i could get a name for it that would be awesome too!
any help would be greatly appreciated

If you find/buy the commercially available plugs for the tachs, I think it will work for the speedo drive as well. Maybe not.

If not, it doesn't really need one. Neither does the tach for that matter. Both are sealed. But the opening on the tach is high and pointing forward, so it can catch debris and fill up and looks unfinished without a plug.

Not so the speedo drive.

Honda makes a rubber speedo drive plug for some off road models but it should fit the road bikes as well.  I have one blocking off the tach drive on my 550.  The part number is 44835-365-671 and costs around $7 or so.

You could also remove the drive unit and have a spacer made to take it's place.

Good Luck,

Thanks guys, I wanna get a plug for the tach first but if i dont need one for the speedo then im not gonna worry about it right now. Im gonna look into getting a spacer for the drive unit, is there a blueprint for that? or should i just talk to a customs shop?

Unless you're building a show bike, i wouldn't mess with a spacer.
