'79 cb650 wheels on a '71 cb750????
« on: November 29, 2011, 06:23:07 PM »
Hey guys I found these wheels for sale on craigslist and was curious if they will bolt right up to my 1971 cb750? Here is the ad:

Up for sale is a set of Honda Comstar Wheels off a 1979 Honda CB 650 and a pair of rebuilt forks for the same bike. The wheels are in clean decent shape, 19" front with a single disc and 18" rear with the drum brake assembly. The forks have been rebuilt with new seals and lowered 1 1/4" $70 for the wheels and $60 for the forks. I even have some side covers I will throw in. These are period correct for CB 750 DOHC, or CB 400. Could even be made to work with CB 360 or CB 350, CB 550 or mod them out for a cafe racer or bobber project.

Thanks-Flick

I'm pretty sure the wheels will work BUT I believe the forks are a larger diameter after 1978, I could be wrong on this since it is a cb650!

they will be narrower than the k1 because they are the same as the 550 but it should slide in the sprockets are a different matter it will require custom sprockets to get the ratio right

They require mods to get them in a 550 even. Only minor.  Anything can be made to fit with time and money.

ive seen late model Comstars on an early model 750 before, but it just looked wrong.

ps, arent those rear comstars a 16"?  i thought they were on the newer style starting in 79, might want to double check

Thanks for all the info guys, that was exactly what I was needing to know... Nothing is wrong with my stock wheels I think I'll just keep them. Would it be ok to powder coat the rim and hubs of my stock wheels?

FYI HondaCB the 79 rear comstar was a 17.  In 80 they went to 16.  79 front was narrower to but still 19 for all years.   The standard with the wire wheels stayed 17 on the rear.
