'78 CB750 Motion Pro Throttle/Clutch Controls: A bad word here?
« on: December 02, 2011, 06:39:38 AM »
So I searched for info on selecting the correct aftermarket Motion Pro Throttle/Clutch Controls for my bike and seeing what the user experience was like. I found about 4 threads from a year ago where people have asked this same question and got vague (at best) answers about the controls they were using, which were usually NOT Motion Pro.

Are the Motion Pro units for a '78 CB750 trash? And please, don't link Pingle or any other way overpriced site, or a link to an auction on gixxer parts, etc.

If it was me, I would get(order?) 3 of each cable you need...or better,go to a dealer who is a "stocking dealer" and usually carries Motion Pro for Vintage Honda's & take the best ones from the batch; bring your old ones w/ you to measure for correct fit just to be sure. If you can get an NOS O.E.Honda cable or new one from the dealer you will be way ahead.

I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.

I'm talking about the controls themselves (throttle assembly/ clutch assembly):

NOT the cables-just want to clear that up  ;)

Coyote- Awesome-which part numbers did you use & where did you get them? My problem is when I attempt to order from both Bike Bandit and Motion Pro directly, both store fronts use "Bike Match" for their purchases. The problem is if I select '78 cb750k, it says 'no parts found' or links to cables/other stuff.

If you had pics, that would be great

Any 7/8 inch control should work.  The diameter of the handle bar is the key.  The throttle should have 2 openings for push pull.  You might want to try calling Motion Pro directly and see if they can do a cross reference for you.  Do they have any controls for older hondas or even 80s hondas?  Find a model of bike with 7/8" handle bars and order a part from a model that they readily have in stock.  Does this help?

Yes; I wasn't reassured by the responses on Motion Pros ask a question forum. They seemed more interested in selling custom length cables than answering direct questions = /

Those pictures are of cheap chinese junk with anodizing or powder coat on them.  Same thing is available in chrome for $15.00 a control.  CycleRecycle2 in Indy has them on the chopper section of their site.  Quality? no.  functional? yes.

This is slightly nicer for the throttle and includes grips.  Single pull cable only.  Couldn't find a better clutch perch.

I have that clutch perch with Honda levers and it works fine.  I have the throttle tube in a stock Honda switch gear with stock cables and another bike has the complete throttle as pictured on a second bike.  No problems and I would use them again.  The Motion Pro cables are less money than Honda's but so far I have had no worries with them.
Note: Stock Honda cables worked in the Motion Pro throttle.

Hey sorry Kev, I was under the impression you were talking about the cables, I'm of no use in this conversation.

Weird, I've ordered stuff from them about a dozen times and have never had a problem.  Sometimes OEM stuff will be backordered but that's and OEM thing, not a Bike Bandit thing.

Kev, you're right about not being able to order the parts, though.  I can add the throttle to the cart but not the clutch perch.  WTF?

Dime City also carries these things and will probably talk to you about them, too.  Here's their page for levers, grips, gauges: http://www.dimecitycycles.com/cafe-racer-parts/vintage-honda-caferacer-cafe-racer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-parts/vintage-honda-caferacer-cafe-racer-motorcycle-parts.html?cat=7&limit=all
