frame pockets holding water?
« on: November 26, 2011, 11:24:45 AM »
I am in the midst of detailing and repairing a split left frame rail on a 750 K0 frame. I have drilled the drain holes in the lower frame rails that were supposed to be there. I noticed the frame area around the swingarm pivot have openings in the sides and I'm not seeing a way for them to drain. I plan to ride this one and expect at some time to need to wash it or get caught in rain.
I did wash the frame at the car wash after I took the bike apart and it did trap water in the main upper tube behind the neck. I know that I wont be doing that anytime soon but it got my attention.
Does anyone have experience with this? Just wondering.

Water in the frame, yeah I know a little.

I'm not sure how all this happened as of yet.  I have not started breaking down the bike.

But to their credit, we are still riding them 30+ to 40 years later.  Not to mention, there are way more stories of solid CB's being found than roached out old basket cases.  Whether is was on purpose or not, they did build them to last.  And, as Terry said, we merry group of dickheads are still riding them.  ;D :o 8)

I AIN'T MERRY!  Well, I'm going to drill a couple 1/8" holes where I think I need them. Two by the swing arm at the bottom and one at the rear of the main tube under the tank.

OK so caught a glimpse of MRJack55's most recent find and got to thinking about my bike. Its up here in VT where rust eats everything and my bike has very little considering the elements.

I haven't had a chance to look for drain holes yet.  But was Honda putting them in by the time the K2 came out?  If so where would you find them. If not where should I drill some in? only three as Don R mentioned?

Wonder if its possible to POR-15 the inside of the frame???
