Anybody do rearsets on a 500/550????
« on: December 04, 2011, 12:50:29 PM »
I'm new to bikes, and for my first bike, I'm attempting to build my own.  I've started with a 1972 CB500, cut and welded up a new hoop, and I've got some Benjie's bodywork to put on it.  For foot controls, I'm using Loaded Gun Customs' universal rearsets fastened to the old mounting position for the passenger footpegs.  Its a very comfortable position for me with the Benjie's seat and tank positioning.  I have linkages from Dime City Cycles with heim joints on either end to help make the rearsets do their thing.

So I have absolutley no clue what I'm doing.  FIrst, what kind of fastners would you guys recomend I use for connecting the linkages to the rearsets, and the linkages to the shifter and brake? Also, any siggestions on a brake lever that would work with the stock return spring?  Anybody have pictures of their setups that I could look at to maybe provide me with some inspiration and an idea of how the geometry works?

Thanks a billion!

I don't know a ton about rear sets, but this place has ones that fit CB550's:

Maybe you could check out what they provide and copy it from their kit.

Also, Do The Ton has a bunch of guys using rear sets on these bikes.
