Gasket Set Damaged in Shipment
« on: December 04, 2011, 12:03:48 PM »
I ordered a versrah gasket set and it got bent in shipment.  The head gasket got slightly bent right at the metal part on the one of the inside cylinders.  Can I straighten it out since its going to be compressed between the head and cylinder?

I would not trust it.  Too much work involved replacing it if fails to seal.
36 years of this stuff, here to help.

If it had a crease you can feel with a fingernail I would be not confident for sure.

I think I'd be asking the guy that packed it for another. I'm sure he wants happy customers and his goods arriving in fine shape. My head gasket was shipped shrink wrapped to a cardboard sheet and inside a corrugated cardboard box.

If not kinked it might be allright, and the good advice I got here for a "no leaker" was torque, after 24 hours, loosen each head bolt in sequence 1/2 turn and retorque.

It's definitely got a crease in it.

I just received a gasket set damaged as well... It seems in the Cyber Monday rush they just tossed it in a box that is too small, and bent it pretty bad...
Unfortunately for them, its not even the set that I ordered.

edit: Well, I was pretty *bent* out of shape over this, but they've got pretty good customer service. They're going to refund the ground shipping that I didn't pay in the first place because of cyber monday, send me a shipping label for the returned product, and ship me the new one rush, free of charge. Well played.

Bike Bandit. I think its safe to say they handled it well. As long as they don't send me the wrong thing again  ::)
