Emulsifier air bleed hole drilled out?! Confusion.
« on: February 07, 2012, 01:52:28 AM »
So the carbs that I took apart came from a chopper project. The bike ran with 4 in 4 mac dragpipes and K&N pod filters. Some things caught my eye, and I'm hoping you guys can help me put the pieces together.

The carbs had 110 main jets. I thought those would be too small with the pods? Never heard the bike run by the way, it is a damaged project bike. I'd like to run it with the same 4 in 4 drags and the pods, so I'm trying to understand if this will run.

The needle was all the way down. This causes the mixture to become more lean, I understand. But it appears that the EMULSIFIER AIR BLEED HOLES are slightly drilled out! And here I can't piece it together anymore. This causes more air to reach the mixture, but didn't the pods do this already?

What is the logic behind this? How would this bike run if I were to reinstall it? Shouldn't I run it with larger main jets or something? Tx guys!

this is on a 350 four right?(joke)drilled emulsifiers wont really lean you out within reason, the idea is that it froths the fuel more as it discharges from the jet and makes it easier to light, theres an air bleed restriction so even if the tube is drilled it cant deliver anymore air.

like dave said it may actually work in reverse adding suction to the emulsifier and instead of emulsification you could end up sucking up more raw fuel if they drilled them too big as dave stated more tiny holes will lead to better emulsification but large ones usually don't the 110 mains are probably sized to the pipes and not to the pods the pods were probably an after thought that was never thought through correctly if you have the air box put that back on first make it run then start modifying

I should ask one question in each thread I guess. Tx for the replies you two, appreciate it. To correct myself: the needle clip was on the lowest position, so the bike was running rich. At first I said it was running lean. Misinformation.

Now, the hole I am talking about is actually shown in this picture. If this would be drilled open, what would the effect be? I read somewhere that the midrange would start later, because more air comes trough this hole (source: Hondaman). I'm trying to understand, so correct me, please; the idle air screw would have a slightly bigger on the throttle.

I'll run the carbs on a bike later on this week, and we'll see what happens.

that will cause more leaness at idle and part throttle, you might be able to adjust the screws to compensate.
