I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Scott's reusable oil filter and if anyone has used it on a CB engine. Here is the filter:

I used them on motocross bikes for years with no problems. I didn't even know they made them for CB's.

This has come up on the site before.

It looks pretty and at least it has the by-pass for when you can't wash off those 30 micron particles that you can't see and the flow gets compromised. What was the price on it? Looks expensive. It would be nice it you could use a disposable filter in it.

Any real life experience?

I think I can find more enjoyable ways to waste an afternoon than cleaning reusable oil filters and air filters. Nice if it had a disposable cartridge? I agree, but the canister already on the bike has that feature. These things are solutions looking for a problem. A complete waste of money and needless extra maintenance effort.

+1 Jerry I like the can looks well made but I am not washing a oil filter. Someone buy this and tell us it would take the OEM filter. If it does I would buy it.
35 microns? what is the OEM rated at?

Yeah I agree, I think if I were racing or doing a lot of track days this would be a good option as I would be changing filters after every event. As it is I''ll be hard pressed to put 2k miles on my bike.

Years ago (and maybe still now) J.C. Whitney sold toilet paper oil filters. This looks like the deluxe version of that high tech device. I'm anal about filters, especially oil. Change 'em early, change 'em often, and use the good stuff.

On there site they say they will make any thing you want. I don't even want to ask what a one off cover would cost to take a OEM paper filter.

Cost of the filter was not really my concern nor was the looks. I was more interested in the 35 micron absolute filtration. Paper filters can allow larger particles through. It seems this filter is far superior to a paper filter and reviews and testing I have seen online seem to back that claim up.

On a design side it seems that the filter for the CB 750 and CB 650 is simply the drop in filter and you keep the original housing. I think the housing I posted is only for the screw on filter applications.

Perhaps this may have a solid performance capability. Sounds like you've done your due diligence, so then the consideration would be cost vs. whatever performance advantage it offers. Is it really necessary to filter particles only 40% larger than a blood cell? Don't think that answer is readily obtainable.

Agreed, a solution looking for a problem. If either the auto or motor sport industry ever perceived a problem with the current state of oil filters they would have been updated many years ago. They do the job they were designed for.

I had already planned on using one I was simply looking to see if anyone here had experience with one. Personally I feel if it offers better filtration as long as flow is still up to par then it can only have positive results. We shall see once my engine is built.

As stated earlier in the post the 750 and 650 filters use the stock housing so the cooling would be the same. I found several reviews on the web however that was the only one I posted. I wasn't looking for a debate on the theory of oil filters I was merely looking for opinions from anyone here that had used them. Looks like I will be the guinea pig on this one.

I don't see how its a waste of money when its a one time purchase versus continuing to purchase stock filters. And in the time it takes to run to the store and buy a new stock filter you could clean this one so time really isn't a factor either. So once I get one and get my motor running I'll report back if I have any problems.

I'm not trying to sell you a filter. If you are fine with stock then stick with it. As I have said now for like the 3rd or 4th time I was looking for evaluations from others that might have used this filter because this is the one that I'm buying. You are welcome to your opinion on it and I have mine. I think this is at least as good or possibly better than most of the filters on the market and I like the fact that I don't have to dispose of filters and purchase new ones. This will be a one time purchase and I like that idea as long as it does the job. The one thing I have seen repeated over and over in personal reviews of this filter is that when cold the pressure comes up quicker with this filter than with paper filters due to better flow and less restriction. That is certainly a plus for lubrication.

A friend's race car used a reuseable oil filter from a helicopter, flatter design but same idea.

Actually better flow & less restriction would give you a quicker pressure buildup, just what you want for cold starts. Less cold start wear to the mains.

65Ch33LL3: About the cleaning I have one of those 30 gal. parts cleaners. It uses kerosene you could make a adapter like one for a oil cooler with reverse flow hook it up and run for a time until it runs clear. Cleaner also has a filter that would have to be lower microns than the oil filter.This could be done during oil change and other maintenance. Just throwing out ideas

None of this is a waste of time. I like to tinker in the shop especially on the Honda That and other things is what is good about retirement

Interesting read. I will take that information with all the other that I have researched as well and I will still purchase this filter. And for the millionth time I am looking for reviews by people that have used this filter not a debate on this filter. Frankly I'm really surprised at how hard you guys are working at trying to prevent me from spending my hard earned money when I didn't even ask for it. Thanks but no thanks.

Oh and one last thing is its physics, not fysics
