Never mind I am an idiot. They are the same part number. Plus I am going to wait now that I found more info about the 78K coming with progressive springs.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Today I fit some stock 550 progressive wound springs onto my lightened 750, thinking they would be better than the K7 750 springs which were too stiff. The 550 springs, with the same 1" pre-load, were even stiffer! I think Honda had yet to figure out how to make a progressive spring. I wouldn't compare the Honda spring to a Progressive brand spring. ;)

See I had this same thought when comparing my 550F to the 550K. My 550F is way more stiff. I wanted my 550K to feel the same. Maybe I will remove the front end to finally swap to the all balls tapered bearings. Then change out the fluids.

The 550 springs were too stiff on my 750! The front forks were barely compressed with the weight of the bike.

I've studied the pictures in the various Parts Lists. Interesting, sometimes the closer windings are up, sometimes they are down.

CB500/500K1/K2[A] 51401-323-010 closer windings are up. No separate rebound spring.

CB500K2[ED, F, G]('76) 51401-374-003 and rebound spring 51412-340-000

CB550F/F1 51401-390-003 closer windings are down. No separate rebound spring.

CB550F2/500K3/550K3/K4 51401-404-003 and rebound spring 51412-340 -000.

Front legs.
The first model 500 had frontlegs: -323-305
The 500K1 shared the same legs -323-315 with the 500K2[A]
The 500K2[ED, F, G]('76) shared legs -374-013 with the 550K/K1/K2('76)
The 550F shared legs -390-003 with the 550F1 but
The 550F2 shared it's 'shaved' legs -404-003 with the 500K3/550K3/K4.
Now don't let this confuse you. Just dance on with the legs you've got!

Hey delta, what does no seperate rebound rate mean?
What does the direction of the windings mean too? Hate to sound dumb but I have no clue what the purposes are when using the terminology you preferenced.

I presume you mean 'separate rebound spring'. How about you having a look at those pictures in the Parts Lists?
Except for the CB550F2, you'll find them all here: http://www.honda4fun.com/spaccati/spaccati.html
Most of them you can find them at the top of this forum too.

Socalled progressive springs have their windings closer together on one end. Strangely enough they're depicted in one Parts List with their closer windings at the top and in another at the bottom end. In other pictures you cannot detect whether they're progressive at all.
